Bristol, Tennessee is a city in Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,879 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Johnson County and part of the Nashville metropolitan area. Bristol was founded by James Robertson in 1814 as a trading post on the Cumberland River. The original Bristol Post Office was established in 1818. In 1865, it became the capital of Tennessee when that state was reorganized into three counties. From 1870 to 1920, Bristol served as the seat of both Johnson and Henderson Counties before becoming a separate city in 1920. In 1990, Bristol became one of fifteen cities in Tennessee to receive full statehood as an independent state with its own government and government schools system. During World War II, Bristol played an important role as a munitions production center for the war effort with facilities such as Camp White Oak and Camp Harker developing significant military importance. Today, Bristol remains an important cultural and commercial center within Johnson County while also playing host to numerous annual events including the State Fairgrounds Speedway race track which hosts world-class NASCAR races each year during Memorial Day Weekend The history of Bristol begins with James Robertson who arrived here from Scotland in 1814 after traveling through North America on his way home from fighting against Native Americans at Battle Creek Indian Field near Detroit Michigan (now Elmira cheese country). He built a trading post on what is now known as Milton Street on what is today's southeastern corner of Johnson County - just east of present day downtown Chattanooga It would be several years before any real development took place here; until Mr.Robertson's son William Auld moved his family here permanently around 1828 due to some health issues back home in Scotland that he had yet to fully solve - William Auld would die young at only 39 years old however his wife Jane did live another 26 years making her longest living widow ever In 1830 local preacher Elijah Hicks came to town preaching repentance and conversion but found very few people interested in following him or even knew about him because they were more preoccupied with their own personal concerns back then Robertsons store continued doing quite well despite all this so Hicks decided to move away from town altogether but left behind some valuable land which would become what is now downtown Bristols core In 1840 two brothers named Johnnie & John Smith started up a grocery business right next door to Robertsons store across what is now Third Street East from downtown - this Grocery Store later became known simply as "Johnnie's" due to its founder Johnnie Smiths continuous ownership/operation over time In 1841 Mrs Jane Auld gave birth to her first child Samuel who would grow up here until he died suddenly aged just 22 years old during Confederate service outside Knoxville not long after taking office there himself Mrs Jane also gave birth 3 more children total over her lifetime: Martha (1842-1926), Mary Elizabeth (1844-1936) & Josephine Belle (1846-1920) - all born within 2 ½ miles of where she lived / worked inside or near downtown Bristols walls every day growing up between these busy streetscapes ; throughout most if not all these pregnancies she kept house for both husband Johnnie & father Sammie while working inside or nearby their grocery store either helping out when needed or going about their daily lives trying hard like many other mothers did back then faced with such challenges knowing that life could always take any form so no matter how bad things seemed sometimes good happened when everything worked out alright ... Mrs Jane died suddenly at age 61 years old mothering 5 children plus 2 grandchildren between Jackson Square Mall & Third Street East late one night early morning shortly thereafter leaving behind 4 lively youngsters running around Downtown Bristols limits right then and there without their mommy ever having any say about it :-)

Bristol, Tennessee is a small town located in Sevier County, Tennessee. Bristol was founded in 1859 and has been the seat of government for Sevier County since 1865. The population of Bristol was 11,851 at the 2000 census. The downtown area is home to many businesses and services as well as the municipal building where the county courthouse is located. The history of Bristol begins with settlers coming to the area in 1859. There were three settlements in Sevier County before Bristol was founded: Winchester, Carthage and Milford Station. All three were abandoned within a few years because of instability caused by war and economic problems. In 1865, the Confederate General Averaging Johnston surrendered at Appomattox Court House and Knoxville became the new capital of Tennessee. This event marked an end to slavery in Tennessee and allowed for more people from other states to come and settle in Sevier County. Since 1865, Bristol has seen a number of changes; most notably during World War II when it became an important military base due to its proximity to major theaters of conflict such as Europe and Asia. During that time, much activity took place within the city limits including manufacturing, education and research center as well as housing developments for soldiers personnel stationed throughout Tennessee Valley Command (TVC). After the war ended, business slowed down while new development took hold around town which included several high-rise apartment buildings that still stand today. Today, there are several restaurants within walking distance of downtown along with numerous civic organizations providing service activities such as Parks & Recreation or library operations both inside and outside the Municipal Building on First Street
