Bristol, Tennessee is an unincorporated community located in Sevier County, Tennessee. It lies on the Cumberland River at its confluence with the Maumee River. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The small town of Bristol was founded in 1836 by John Fenton and his family as a trading post on the east bank of the Cumberland River. In 1840, Bristol became a town under state law. The first Postmaster General of Tennessee was from Bristol and so it had some legal importance until about 1880 when mail service to other parts of the state began to provide more comprehensive coverage than could be provided by local residents. In 1861, Union soldiers burned all but two homes in Bristol while they were besieging Fort Donelson south of town (the townspeople refused to surrender). The Battle of Bristol occurred on July 16th 1863 when Confederate forces attacked Union troops near what is now called Live Oak Landing Road north of town during an attack on duty by Federal troops commanded by Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest. There were only around 50 Confederate casualties compared to over 100 Union dead or wounded; this victory helped convince Abraham Lincoln that he should order a withdrawal from Chattanooga before it became too costly for him to hold against further Confederate attacks. In 1865, after much debating among Republicans and Democrats in Congress, slavery was abolished throughoutTennessee except for three counties which continued traditional ownership rights: Montgomery County, Davidson County and Knox County (the last county to do so being Memphis). This event also made Bristol one of the few places in Tennessee where white people no longer had any legal connection with slavery—it became an open community free from racial restrictions immediately following emancipation. This event also served as a catalyst for rapid development within the small bourgeoning community including several stores and restaurants opening up along Live Oak Landing Road soon thereafter followed by two schools (one public and one private) shortly thereafter making it possible for locals to get their education without leaving their homes; these developments helped spur economic growth within Bristol until World War II when industry hit a lull due largely to technological advances across different countries beyond Tennessean borders which sharply reduced jobs opportunities hereabouts. After World War II things slowly started picking up again although not quite as rapidly as they did prior thereto due largely to increased competition from neighboring states west of Interstate 40 while employment opportunities hereabouts have slowly declined since then either due primarilyto demographic factors such as slow population growth or globalization/international trade bringing down wages everywhere else while increasing costs associated with technology-driven production methods everywhere else resulting in job losses inland rather than new construction statewide like has been common elsewhere over recent decades despite significant investmentulus throughout those years notwithstanding].

Bristol, Tennessee is a small town in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. The population was 3,681 at the 2010 census. It is located in McMinn County, Tennessee and is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Bristol was Captain John Smith in 1502. He named it after his home city of Bristol, England. In 1795, General James Wilkinson moved his army from Chattanooga to form an army that marched on Nashville and burned down the federal courthouse there. In 1801, General Andrew Jackson served as Major-General in Knoxville before he was elected President of the United States. On February 14, 1802, he issued a proclamation announcing his intention to move his army to Lookout Mountain so that he could attack Mobile Bayou and cut off Spanish reinforcements coming across that way from Alabama and Mississippi. The plan went wrong when Colonel John Sevier's brigade attacked Jackson's column instead of following orders and resulted in several hundred casualties for both sides including many American prisoners who were paroled back into slavery by their captors. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell decided against moving his Army Of Northern Virginia southward towards Richmond due to poor health; instead he ordered up a force composed mostly of cavalry made up mainly of Kentucky Volunteers under Lieutenant colonel George Armstrong Custer which stormed Union posts at Five Forks west of Petersburg on April 12th (this event is also known as " Pickett's Charge"). Aftermath included over 400 killed or wounded with more than 2 thousand homes destroyed or damaged including most importantly one major factory complex near present day Bristol which produced munitions for Confederate forces during the war In 1865 Union General Jubal Early advanced northward through TN into PA reaching Gettysburg on July 4th whereupon Early turned east towards Pittsburgh seeking supplies before turning back again northeast towards Philadelphia on July 8th nearpresent day Bristols limits
In 1795, the area that is now Bristol was called the "Cherokee Nation" because a group of Cherokee Indians had their reservation in present-day Tennessee. The United States acquired the land from Spain in 1803 and made it part of its acquisitions during the Mexican-American War. In 1861, when Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Bristol became part of the Union side and continued to be known as "the capital of West Tennessee." After Reconstruction took place in America following the Civil War, Bristol became an important center for black civil rights activity.
