Brentwood is a town in the U.S. state of Tennessee, located just south of Nashville on the Cumberland River. The population was 36,651 at the 2010 census. Brentwood is part of the Nashville–Davidson metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Brentwood was John Overton in 1792. He and his family moved to what is now Brentwood from Covington County, Kentucky, in 1802. Overton laid out a plat of land that would become Brentwood on November 3, 1802 with fellow settlers James White and Robert Brown as partners. The name "Brentwood" originated with John's brother-in-law Colter Bramble who purchased 100 acres (40 ha) near present day Beavercreek Road and called it "Brentwoods". In 1814, when Nashville was founded as an independent city, Lt.-Gen Joseph Lane decided to establish himself there and named his new settlement after General Andrew Jackson's home state of Mississippi – Tennessee becoming Jackson County – making him one of the first white men to establish himself within what would become Nashville proper. When he died in office in 1829 his heirs donated all their assets including titles to 9 square miles (23 km²) northeast of downtown which became known as Jackson Park after him; this area later included much of modern Brentwood along with other neighborhoods such as Germantown and Oak Lawn until they were annexed by Nashville in 1907 during Mayor James Kincaid's master plan for city growth which also proposed annexing much rural Davidson County east of I-15 into expanding bounds for downtown Nashville proper When cotton farming boomed around 1800s southwestern Tennessee plantations began to be abandoned due to lack of moisture or pests so many people moved into these areas where land was available but infrastructure wasn't yet developed so there were no schools or clinics etc so people started calling this place "Mt Heaton" because there wasn't any heat like today’s America back then! In 1902 when our great nation went through its tough time economically things started going good for us again we took our children away from school so they could go work on their dad’s plantation getting paid $2 a day instead! They bring us down hard & still are trying today! We came up roses though! It has a humid subtropical climate with warm days and cold nights, typical of the Appalachian Mountains. The first people to live in what is now Brentwood were Native Americans who hunted and gathered game in the area during the early years of settlement. The first white men to arrive in present-day Brentwood were Major General James Robertson and his party on October 10, 1824. They founded what is now Robertson Springs Mission on a bluff overlooking the town from where they surveyed properties for future settlements. At that time, there was no road between Sevier County and Nashville so travelers had to travel overland or by boat. The first school in Brentwood was built on Valentine Road near present-day High School (now called Middle School) in 1827 by local resident Amos Hawkins. A second school was built beside it about two years later when vote resulted in voting money being set aside for public education within 1 mile of each home free of tuition charges for students attending private schools outside of Sevier County). In 1830, Mrs Apostle Gideon Kelley donated land off Deep Creek Road which became known as Kelley Park after her donation. In 1833, John Bartram purchased some land east ofpresent-day Brentwood from Mr John Catlett for $2 per acre (a price which decreased over time due to inflation). From this purchase additional tracts were acquired until Bartram's farm lay bounded by Deep Creek Road (west), Purplett Road (east), Old Highway 671 (north), and State Route 601/Nashville Pike (south). This large tract contained more than . When he died in 1865 his estate went into receivership but finally sold off all but 4 acres including parts of present day Brentwood to Alexander Henderson for $10 per acre ($365 per square mile).
