In 1801, John Dickey settled in what is now Bartlett and became its earliest resident postmaster. In 1868, Prentice Waddell bought a tract of land northwest of Bartlett and began to build houses there. He named his property "Wedding Hill" after his bride's family home near Winchester, Virginia. After Waddell's death in 1875, his widow donated this land to the town for use as a park and playground. At one time or another every family living around Bartlett had their own blacksmith shop- even though it was forbidden by law to do so during slavery days! In 1862 Samuel Henson set up a forge on Church Street just south of town for smithing leather goods for local farmers (today's Old Henson Hardware). Blacksmiths continued to be an important part of life in Bartlett until World War II when they lost their jobs due to new technology developments (the development of aluminum). Bartlett is a town in Marshall County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The first settlers in Bartlett were Andrew and John Bartlett who arrived in 1819. In 1830, David Cochran settled here and in 1836 the family moved to Tellico Creek Village (later Tellico) where they built a log cabin and raised crops and cattle. In 1840, Isaac McCoy settled here with his family from Kentucky. They erected a large log cabin on the east side of Main Street which still stands today as an important local landmark. In 1851, Hosea Laddt land grant was made to Jeptha Wofford which included tracts of land extending into Marshall County including present-day Bartlett. With this gift, Bartlett became one of the earliest towns in Marshall County. At that time it had a population of just five people living on main street with four homes or barns used for farming purposes only! 1st Ward Alderman John Aiken organized a school board in 1861 and purchased some land adjoining High School for $5 per acre from Samuel Coker to build what would become known as “The Academy” – now known as North High School – on what is now Main Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue NE. On July 10th 1865 Union General Ulysses S Grant visited Marshall County during his tour through Georgia and TN when he stopped at The Academy for dinner; shortly afterwards General Sherman reached Chattanooga by water crossed Big Branch Gap Bridge over Lookout Mountain near Bartlett…..At this time we know that our olden days were far behind us….During World War II many industries closed down around here due to lack of war production; however most residents did not leave because they could not find work elsewhere……Today there are still some families who maintain their ranching skills while others have moved into businesses such as healthcare/legal services etc…………………………………Today’s community has emerged largely thanks to its strong automotive industry which provides jobs for locals throughout various areas…..Many families have also brought their children along so that education opportunities are available too………..

Bartlett was founded in 1811 by James Bartlett. The town is named after Colonel John Bartlett, who donated the land for the town. The first settler in Bartlett was George Stephenson. In 1814, the community had a population of just 10 people. However, over time, Bartlett grew and became a thriving city with a population of over 100 people by 1840. The western edge of the city was destroyed in the 1870s by a natural disaster, but it quickly regenerated and has since grown into one of Tennessee's most vibrant communities.
