When Stephen Bartlett and his farming family moved to Tennessee in the late 1800s, they were pioneers. They started a small farm on the banks of the Cumberland River, just outside of Chattanooga. The Bartletts grew cotton, hay, and apples until World War II when they retired to a retirement home in Bartlett. Today, the family continues to live on their farm and has been keeping horses and pigs since before there was a Rural Electrification Administration (REA). The Bartletts are one of only a few families in Tennessee still practicing these traditional values. Bartlett is located about 25 miles south of Nashville on I-65. It was founded by Stephen's great-grandfather in 1812 as a village called "Barton" after General Andrew Barton who fought against Native Americans at Battle Creek. In 1827, it became part of Hamilton County where it remained until 1861 when it was transferred to Knox County. During that time period, Barton had an population of 1,500 people including 300 farmers and 500 slaves. In 1881, Stephen bartlett married Anna Leary and together they raised two children: Barbara (1901-1984) and John (baptized “John”) (1907-1991). Barbara played tennis with Babe Ruth while John served as mayor of Chattanooga from 1969-1975; he also edited The Tennessean from 1975-1993 before retiring from print journalism in 1993. Their son Steve also played tennis collegiately at Vanderbilt University where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in business administration/administrative law; he then worked for many years for the government or private sector as an attorney specializing in antitrust law before becoming an assistant U S Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee from 2006–present; during his tenure as Assistant U S Attorney he prosecuted cases such as Volkswagen emissions cheating scandal which led to $16 billion dollars settlement with the automaker worldwide; this case made him into one of America’s most celebrated antitrust attorneys

Bartlett is a small town in Carter County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The first settler in Bartlett was John Bartlett who arrived in 1796. He built a log cabin on the banks of the Cumberland River and named it "Barton". In 1819, William Hixson purchased land in what is now Bartlett and established a sawmill there. By 1830, Hixson had also acquired an agricultural plot northeast of the town and called it "Hixson's Mill". In 1834, Washington White organized the First Baptist Church in Bartlett and initialized meetinghouses throughout Carter County. In 1865, General James Longstreet of Chattanooga commandeered some cannons from Fort Sumter to bombard Confederate forces at Lookout Mountain near present-day Vanderbilt University; this led to much public anger in Tennessee over General Sherman's aggressive military tactics during the American Civil War. Some residents of Bartlett came up with the idea of naming their community after Longstreet as revenge for his action. John Denton proposed changing "Barton" to "Longstreet" because he felt that it would be more fitting than "Hixson's Mill". The name stuck and today many people refer to Barton as "Longstreets". When Union general Joseph Ewell surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865, most residents left behind to join Union troops or return home before Confederate forces could get close. A few individuals decided to stay behind to protect their homes and relatives fled across the river into Kentucky while others took flight through nearby Maycomb County into Arkansas. Most inhabitants of Barton by this time were either jailed or refugees living among friendly Confederates outside our borders After war ended on April 6th 1865 all citizens must have returned home except for those who had taken refuge with Confederate forces beyond our lines which are listed under other location such as Kentucky or Arkansas Some families chose not to come back home due to fear what would happen if they did so many people had just gone away like that In 1925 coalmining magnate Aubrey Rockefeller bought 310 acres (130 hectares) northwest of town from Wm Hixon president Wm Pritchard for $10 per acre (3¢ per hectare). This large parcel included much remains east side including 3 contributing mills buildings still standing today: Barton Manufacturing Company (now demolished), Second Barton Manufacturing Company (now demolished) & Third Barton Manufacturing Company (now demolished). The company operated until 1951 when production shifted indoors leaving only 2 mill buildings still standing today: One as part of Roxbury Coal & Coke Co., now used as offices by Appalachian Power Holdings LLC & One still operating as Second Barton Manufacturing Company building currently used by Sawgrass Realty Partners LP
Bartlett was founded in 1819 by John Bartlett and his wife, Susannah. The town was named after John Bartlett's father, who had settled in the area in 1798. The Bartletts were pioneers in the region and built a sawmill, grist mill, store, and other businesses. They also became involved in politics and served as alderman from 1818 to 1824 and as mayor from 1828 to 1830. In 1830, they moved to Nashville and continued their business activities there until their death in 1865.
