Bartlett is a small town in Great Tennessee Valley, located in Jefferson County. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The first settler in Bartlett was James Gentry and his family who arrived about 1810. About 1830, John Bartlett purchased land from Gentry and built a house on what is now the corner of High and Commerce Streets. In 1836, he married Ann Hawkins and they moved to their current home on State Street in 1840. In 1865, Bartlett organized the first Agricultural Society in Great Tennessee Valley and became its president. He also served as mayor from 1872-1874. He was honored with an honorary doctorate from Vanderbilt University in 1896. A plankPATH tract of land along US 41 near his home was donated by him to that city for street education purposes during the late 19th century; it remains in use today as Parnell Avenue. In 1907 he built a new home at 321 Main Street which still stands today as one of the most popular tourist destinations around here - offering visitors an interesting mix of old farmhouses dating back to before railroads were invented mixed with modern architecture designed by local architects including Don Hargrave & Associates In 1933, Mr. Bartlett died suddenly at his home after a long illness while watching television; he had been almost blind since 1921 when surgery corrected an eye defect caused by scoptic syndrome (a genetic disorder caused by variable light exposure). Mrs. Bartlett continued living independently until her death two years later at age 92 after many years battling dementia due to multiple sclerosis which encroached upon her activities gradually over time

Bartlett is a city in Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The city was named after Bartlett Holcombe, a lawyer and planter who had land in the area. The first settler in Bartlett were two families from Kentucky who started out as loggers and cowboys on what is now known as Holcombe Drive. In 1868, Johnnie Ransom founded the town of Hartselle which bordered present-day Bartlett on the east side of the river. In 1880, Prentice Gentry established himself as a banker in nearby Clarksville and soon became one of the most important bankers in Robertson County. He donated land to form what would become Bartlett's central square where banks and other businesses could open their doors nightly for customers during prohibition days. Gentry's store remains an important fixture in Bartlett today and can be visited by tourists on special occasions such as Fourth of July or Christmas Eve. During World War II many residents worked at local munitions plants including Federal Paper Company (FPC) which built ordnance storage facilities at nearby Decatur Plant No 2 (now known as UTC). After V-E Day the plant continued production under new name Army Paper Corporation until it closed its doors permanently due to wartime regulations that prohibited discrimination against employment based on race or sex
