Bartlett is a small town in Marshall County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Bartlett was James M. Bartlett in 1824. He and his wife, Sarah, had six children: John (born 1825), Anna (born 1830), James (born 1832), Martha (born 1835), and Samuel (brought up by his grandparents). In 1840, Artemus Witherspoon established a flour mill on Post Road in Bartlett. By 1850, there were 9 businesses in the community with a combined payroll of $10,000 (£7000). In 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee visited Bartlett while he was campaigning against General Ulysses S. Grant's forces in the Shenandoah Valley; he stopped at the schoolhouse toaturk before continuing his campaign later that day. After the Civil War ended, many returning veterans settled in Bartlett and founded new businesses including an ice cream parlor and grocery store called The Gilded Cage which remain active today as a museum/restaurant hybrid known as "The Cage".

In 1861, when Confederate General John C. Davis retreated from Chattanooga toullahoma after being defeated at Second Battle of Bull Run, he felt his forces needed rest and decided to move into what is now Barthlett. The town had been established as a trade center for the surrounding rural areas and many people were eager for businesses to open up and support their economy. However, because there were no roads or transportation available in the area at that time, most residents had to rely on horseback or wagon travel to get around. The first post office in Bartlett opened on November 12, 1861; however, it didn't take until 1862 for mail service to be provided by train through Nashville. By 1865, when General Nathan Bedford Forrest surrendered at Franklin while trying to escape across Tellico River, there was little hope that he would be able to return home alive due to his capture by Union forces just two weeks earlier. Bartlett quickly became known as "the home of Forrest" due not onlyto its proximity but also because many abolitionist activists who lived nearby used their influence with President Abraham Lincoln in order help secure lenient sentences for some Confederate officers captured during the war including Forrest himself
The Bartlett, Tennessee area was first settled by the Lapps in 1819. The community of Bartlett was named for John H. Bartlett, a member of the Tennessee General Assembly and one of the original promoters of the Tennessee Valley Railroad. In 1828, Colonel James Robertson purchased land east of present-day Bartlett from the Lapps and began to build a rancho there. The town of Bartlett was founded on November 25, 1830, by local residents John H. Bartlett and his brother-in-law Elijah Whitehead. By 1840, however, it had shrunk to just a few hundred inhabitants due to mail service being available only twice weekly at that time. In 1853, an Act of Congress authorized construction of the Nashville and Chattanooga Railway between those cities and Clarksville (then known as Memphis). This allowed settlers in eastern Kentucky to move westward and begin acquiring land in what is now central Tennessee without having to leave their homes or townsfolk behind. As part of this railroad project, a post office called "Bartlet" was established at present day Bartlett on December 4, 1853. At that time there were only about seventy residents living in what is now central Tennessee; however, within five years over two thousand people had moved into that area from all over the United States because of the railroad projects. In 1865–1866 Union troops burned down many rural dwellings during their general offensive across central America known asthe Mexican War; this destroyed much property in centralTennessee including parts of what is now downtown Barthleton County. However little damage resulted from these raids as most homes were rebuilt quickly following the war's cessation without any loss in value. Over time many agricultural businesses have been located near downtown Barthleton County such as corn maltings & feed stores; chicken coops & egg production; cotton gin & dairies; etc.. Downtown Barthleton has seen some interesting development over recent years with several new bars/restaurants opening up along with new housing developments like Park Place Condominiums which are located directly next door to IMAX theaters!
