In 1881, Bartlett was founded by John A. Bartlett and his wife Charity. The town was named after John A. Bartlett because he donated land to the community. In 1865, Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased a ranch in the area and renamed it "Bartlett". The name stuck and the town began to grow around it. In 1916, the Tennessee General Assembly passed a bill that changed the name of the county from Davidson County to Bartlett County. The new county seat was established at Hickory Park in Bartlett. The towns of Poindexter, Lebanon, Dickson City, Green Gables, and Valley were founded in early 19th century Tennessee communities near Nashville as havens for farmers seeking exemption from state taxes on their goods exported to Kentucky or Georgia. These settlements grew rapidly due to transportation improvements made by Confederate Generals Jubal Early and Nathan Bedford Forrest during the Civil War (1861-65). In 1861, General Early moved his headquarters from Chattanooga to Mayflower Landing on Cumberland River northeast of Nashville for weather observations related to Confederate operations against Union troops under Ulysses S Grant at First Bull Run (July 28-29), Gettysburg ( July 3-4), Antietam ( September 17-18) and Monmouth Junction ( October 14-15). As early as 1862 there were reports of armies assembled east of Manchester waiting for orders northward or southward along Interstate 65 similar in size but leading different routes - one being led by General Early himself - only this routing never materialized pending problems with logistical support linking two large army formations several hundred miles apart just west of Atlanta; however plans did evolve for an all encompassing raid into eastern Tennessee through most of 1863 which never happened despite some high level Confederate intentions

Bartlett is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1859 by J.C. Bartlett and his family from England as a small stop on the old stagecoach route between Knoxville and Nashville. In 1861, Bartlett donated land to the town for development. The first area developed was around the Main Street Schoolhouse which served as the town's central business district until it burned down in 1913. In 1872, Bartlett married Anna Reno and they started their own trading business called Reno's Trading Post which served as a community center until it burned down in 1924. In 1925, when Hardin County became part ofKnoxville proper, Bartlett donated another piece of land to help develop what would become known as "Bartlett Park." This area included much of today's downtown Bartlett and includes many of the original buildings from earlytown days including the Main Street Schoolhouse and Mr. Reno's Store/ cafe where locals could buy goods fresh from local farmers market during Market Saturday mornings (now Fourth Sunday morning). The park also includes a number of commemorative sites such as an 80 foot tall bronze statue of General George Armstrong Custer located at what is now locally known as Hwy 71E (the original county road) just south of downtown BARTLETTE while also containing two replica cannons dating back to 1868 that can be seen along Broadway Avenue near Old Hickory Dam on civic property adjacent to Lewis-Clark State University campus across CR 376E from downtown BARTLETTE inside Hardin County limits

Bartlett is a town in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Bartlett was John Doolittle in 1802. In 1810, John Fenton homesteaded on the east side of the stream that now bears his name. For many years, Bartlett was a small community of only five to seven families. In 1868, James Harnett purchased two hundred acres (100 ha) of land west of Bartlett and began to plat it into lots. By 1880, there were over one thousand people living in Bartlett Township and surrounding areas. In 1902, Levi Coffin developed a cotton gin near where present-day US Route 421 crosses Big Creek just north of downtown Bartlett. In 1916, Judge Wm Aiken organized what became known as "The Baptist Church." He also built a large brick courthouse which still stands today on Commerce Street northeast of downtown Bartlett. This building served as the local government center from 1896 until 1907 when it burnt down due to an electrical fire caused by lightning striking the structure during a thunderstorm. After being rebuilt largely from scratch for its current location next door to county hall (now chambers), it reopened in 1917 as the parish court house before becoming finally abandoned in 1974 following completion of nearby Interstate 40 constructionlar
Bartlett is a city in and the county seat of Bartlett County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 12,871 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Nashville metropolitan area since 2003. The first settler in what would become Bartlett was James Clements who arrived in 1797. In 1802, he and his family moved to what is now the city after being granted land by General Andrew Jackson. The city's growth began with the arrival of John Sprague in 1853 as a result of his construction of the Chattanooga Railroad through Bartlett Valley. In 1865, J.D. McClendon purchased 1/2 mile (3 km) east of town from George Hines for $5 per acre (0.24 ha). McClendon became Bartlett's first mayor and built several buildings including City Hall which still stands today on Main Street in downtown Bartlett. In 1903, Nashville merged with Memphis to form one large metropolitan area and "the Expansion" began as businesses left their former hometowns for consolidated living within one larger economyidealized region. By 1955, when it was determined that all but five cities within that area had reached or exceeded theirhibitory limits for development proposed by developers, Mayor Harry Chandler requested an expansion license from the Tennessee Valley Authority which would have allowed them to build even more homes and businesses than they had originally submitted- only to be denied because there were already too many people living within those limits without developing them further into marketsable areas! This led to Chandler’s famous “Homes Can Be Built Anywhere But Here” speech during a special session of the state legislature convened to consider annexation requests from other counties in Hamilton County including Loudonville and Spring Hill – towns that had already established themselves as bedroom communities adjoining Nashville proper! Bartlett soon became known as "the new Athens". With its increasing population density (which never really slowed down), annexation applications continued until 1966 when opponents successfully sued President Lyndon Johnson over his attempt to annex Walton County adjacent to Vanderbilt University while he was running for reelection against Attorney General Richard Mebane Jr.. After years of litigation culminating with an appellate court decision upholding Johnson’s original plan, annexed Walton County resulted in increased transportation costs associated with bringing goods & services into town from outside sources; this led eventuallyto major redevelopment efforts spearheaded by Carson Armstrong which eventually saw much property rezoning & replacement throughout downtown & surrounding neighborhoods resultingin almost 2 dozen job additions along WITH some retail storefront conversions creating a burgeoning nightlife district just south of Vine Street!
