Bartlett has a humid subtropical climate (Cfa) with hot summers and mild to cool winters. Seasonal precipitation averages over 100 inches (2 m). There are three common types of triggers: single shot, semiautomatic, and automatic. The first trigger type was the hammer-and-piston type, whichfired one round at a time. The hammer would cocked and then launch the rounds into the air, causing them to hit the primer in the barrel and fire. This type of trigger was used for pistols and cannons from before 18th century English firearms were invented. The second type of trigger was called anodic plunger or “hammer touch” because it fired when pressure from below (the hammer) actuated an armature that caused electricity to flow through a wire around the top of the plunger (see illustration). Bartlett, Tennessee is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee. The population was 3,816 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Johnson City–Kingsport-Montgomery Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white person to live in Bartlett was John Craddock in 1819. He and his wife, Susannah Craddock, founded the settlement on land they had grant from the Cherokee Nation. The Cradocks were among the earliest settlers of what would become Hardin County. In 1828 John Fenton erected a log cabin in what is now Bartlett and began trading with other nearby settlements. In 1830 he built a house on current US Highway 61 which served as his home until his death in 1865. One of Fenton's sons, James Corder (1824-1893), also became an early settler in Bartlett and owned several businesses there before moving to Memphis to establish an iron works there in 1876. In 1861 Governor Don Ziegler designated Hardin County as one of six counties within Tennessee created as part of the Union Army during the American Civil War because of its proximity to Confederate forces operating along Virginia's Eastern Shore feeding supplies to Richmond. The county seat for Hardin County shifted from Lebanon to Bartlett three years later when that town seceded from Hardin County over differences with then-Governor Andrew Johnson's Reconstruction policy favoring black residents over whites despite overwhelming support by white citizens for continued Union rule and road construction projects authorized under President Abraham Lincoln following General Robert E. Lee's retreat from Petersburg amassing Confederate forces across South Carolina coastline). Some 1,200 hard workers – men and boys aged 12 or younger – enlisted from Bartlett during hostilities including many who would die while fighting; their bodies were never found although numerous shell casings were discovered near present day Lebanon where much later evidence suggests Confederate troops burned down Fenton’s cabin after successfully evacuating all but two inhabitants – children included – prior to fleeing into Chattanooga range led by General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson who destroyed most of Lebanon soon thereafter routing all Union forces retreating upriver) . By 1860, it had grown to 10,000 and by 1870 it had reached 25,000. By 1880, the population of Bartlett had reached 50,000.
