Bartlett, Tennessee is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis– Nashville-Hollywood metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Bartlett was James Hogg who arrived on July 2, 1796. Hogg was a farmer and surveyor who also served as one of the trustees for Hardin County School District #1 which he helped establish in 1802. He died young in 1804 at the age of 42 years and 4 months; his wife Rebecca (née Price) preceded him to this life on July 2, 1806 at the age of 43 years and 8 months. They had six children: James (Jared) Hogg Sr., John Price Hogg III, Sarah Cook Hogg IV (born December 25th, 1799), Martha Ann Price Higginson (1803-1800), Rebecca Cook Hogg V (1807-1868), George W. Price Bartlett II (1810-1892). James Price Bartlett I purchased 640 acres east of what is now downtown Bartlett from David Williamson on October 16th, 1825 for $200 cash with notes for $4/acre due date November 1st each year thereafter. At that time it was considered a very large land purchase because it included much of present day Hardin County including parts of current day Springfield Township and parts of present day Springboro Township including what is now known as downtown Bartlett. Today’s city limits were established when Hardin County became ancillary to Shelby County in 1907 although some portions still remain within Springfield Township boundaries today such as Old Hickory Street which runs through downtown Bartlett center just south of Interstate 20A exit 143B which skirts I-20E border crossing just north of Old Hickory Cemetery off State Route 21A North towards Oak Grove Cemetery located immediately east side Of State Route 191 South near intersection with US 412 West & FM 965 Southborder marker EAST OF MARTIN COUNTY LINE

In 1834, a post office was established in Bartlett and mail service continued until 1861. A store opened in 1836 and remained in operation until 1902. The first train ride into downtown Bartlett occurred on October 5, 1850 when the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad reached town from Chattanooga. In 1865, the Union Army burned all of the homes of Confederate sympathizers in Bartlett.
