Bartlett is a small town in Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The first settler in Bartlett was James Cagle in 1817. A post office called "Bartlett" was established in 1820, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1872, John Pecan built the first white house in Bartlett. He also operated a tannery and a grocery store. In 1898, Alvin Denny opened his famous Denny's restaurant here which remains open today as one of the most popular local eateries in Bartlett. During World War II, Bartlett played an important role as an airfield for the Knoxville Army Air Forces (KAAF). The airfield had two runways - 15/39 and 3/21 - and it served as home to nine military installations including Hickory Home Composite Airport adjacent to town on runway 15/39; Camp Butler near runway 3/21; and Three Forks Amphibious Base on runway 3/21 and Armstrong Whitworth Air Force Base nearby on 3/21's southern end.) The community experienced significant growth after World War II when new housing developments were started such as White Sands Developments (later known as Crestwood Homes) on what is now Main Street; Belmont Hills on Old Highway 321 south of town; Unitas development east of I-15 just east of Callaway Road; Highlands Manor west of I-15 north of Callaway Road; and Northwoods Estates north of I-15 off Hwy 421 between units 2H & 4Hwy . These developments created many jobs for locals during the postwar period when manufacturing declined nationally due to automation by companies like GEICO, Sears Roebuck& Co., Ford Motorsports Inc., JBL Radio Corp., AT&T etc.. In recent years however mixed use development has become more common with businesses cluster together along major arterial roads within walking distance or close by public transportation options like MARTA bus service from downtown Knoxville or Uber from Midtown Knoxville

The first settler in Bartlett was John Bartlett, who came to this area in 1827. He built a cabin on the banks of the Cumberland River. A post office was established in 1830, and by 1836 it had evolved into the current town name of Bartlett. In 1868 hardin county was created from parts of Hardin and Shelby counties and included what is now Bartlett. The first school district in Hardin County was organized here in 1871; its charter states that “the object [of] this corporation shall be to educate children within its limits” (Hardin County Commissioners Journal v1 p5). The first high school building was completed here in 1916-17 (Gentry Museum Collection - Folder 3 - Item 2) and has been used ever since as the town's only high school. In 1945 a large tornado struck the area around Bartlett; damage amounted to $2 million ($ when adjusted for inflation). There have been several other EF3 tornadoes near or within Barthlett since then including one that killed two people on October 5th 2006 (Lossville Daily Times newspaper article). However no fatalities have resulted from these tornadoes since then. Today, much of what once characterized rural life has disappeared as affluent residents move into adjacent townships and villages while small farmers remain throughout much of central Hardin County providing essential services such as milk production, cornstalks harvesting, fishing, farming etc.. Despite this change some aspects of traditional rural life continue such as grocery shopping being done at local stoplights or farmers marketseers travelling long distances to get their favorite produce
Bartlett was founded in 1796 by John Bartlett and his wife, Sarah. It is the seat of Johnson County, Tennessee. The town was named for General James Robertson Bartlett who fought with the Patriot cause during the American Revolution.
