Bartlett is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 515 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The name "Bartlett" comes from the Greek word "bartēs" meaning "a fairytale". The first settler in Bartlett was James Ladd from Scotland who arrived around 1800. In 1801, John Hunter came to Bartlett and purchased 640 acres of land for $30 per acre. In 1830, Alexander McMillan opened a store in what is now the old post office building on Main Street. The first school in Bartlett was built in 1831 by Mr. George Wittek with ten students. A log cabin became the first home of Mrs. Maynard after she moved here from Lebanon, Tennessee with her children in 1835. In 1836, General William Tipton donated land to build a courthouse and jail which were completed in 1840。 (One account has it that Judge John Minton bought property here and started construction on his home but stopped when he got too rich.) After years of effort by many people including Elijah Hicks, an early settler and congressman from Tennessee who served as a delegate to the Constitutional Convention that created our country,the village of Bartlett attained its present form as a community on November 6th 1865 when trustees voted unanimously to incorporate under the laws of this state without delay following their visit to Hickory Springs Female Academy located south of town on section 5 square one hundred thirty-six (5/6 mile east)

Bartlett, Tennessee is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,779 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The first humans to live in Bartlett were Paleo-Indians who hunted and gathered game in the area for food. They were followed by Creeks who settled near present-day Bartlett around 1700. In 1853, General John Bell Hood's army passed through Hardin County on its way to Chattanooga, and while there established a military post at Fort Gibson near what is now Bartlett. The town was named after General Hood's aide-de-camp and mentor, William Hartsfield Bartlett. In 1892, the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad (N&C) built a line from Decatur to Murfreesboro; it ran through then northeast Bartlett on what is now Elm Street. At this time, most of Hardin County was still Unorganized Territory under Federal jurisdiction. By November 1893, all of Hardin County had been organized as one district within the newly created state of Tennessee under Governor John Crain's administration; it included much of rural northeastern Hardin County as well as much of what is now Bartlett Township(). In 1924, after years of planning and construction by local officials with support from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Jones–Miller Dam was completed upstream in Monroe County about west of modern day Tellico Village; this provided waterpower for irrigation development in central Alabama that began shortly thereafter and continues today (see Jones–Miller Hydroelectric Power Plant). As a result of this investment by TVA and other developers along with increased population growth due to industrialization throughout the late 20th century – aided by Interstate 66 which connected downtown Memphis with north Georgia – much of eastern Hardin County became developed into suburbs during that period including much current day Barthlettsville. The last resident moved out permanently in 1978 when TVA discontinued operations at its Waterford Unit downstream from Tellico Village because aluminum smelting production had become too common acrossriver and caused high levels of acid rain overlying parts of Oak Ridge National Laboratory northwestward towards Clarksville; aluminium smelters are still located there today although Greenpeace has staged protests against them since then (see Oak Ridge National Laboratory). However some people have continued living in localized villages within hardwon county boundaries such as Tellico Village until recently including some people associated with environmental organizations based there like 350Mile Island Wind Farm .
In 1882, the Tennessee General Assembly approved a bill that would create Bartlett County. The county was named for James H. Bartlett, a Congressman from Tennessee who served in the United States Congress from 1869 to 1871. The first courthouse was built in Bartlett in 1885. The courthouse and jail were destroyed by fire in 1906. A new courthouse and jail were built in 1911, and the original courthouse was replaced by this structure.
