Bartlett is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis- based Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for John Bartlett (1793-1848), an early settler. A store and post office were first built in 1827, and the community name changed to Bartlett in 1857. In 1868 it became a white school district with a one-room schoolhouse as its only building. In 1902 the hard mining industry brought about increased demand for goods in the area, which led to growth in businesses and population; by 1925 there were 9 stores and 30 residents. In 1951 Bartlett had become an unincorporated village when it merged with other villages within Hardin County to form Athens Municipal Airport District #1.. As time passed however, some people began to feel that they could not keep up with changes taking place elsewhere within the county or state; they desired their own Villagehood status so that they could have more control over their own affairsetermined by ordinance from 1972 onwards... Today Bartlett has emerged as a thriving business community complete with its own police department, library system and churches/synagogues... while keeping much of its historic character intact including its unpaved streets and lack of central heating or air conditioning

In just a few days, Bartlett had become a battleground between the sides. On April 16, 1861, Union General Robert E. Lee arrived in Bartlett and ordered all residents to leave their homes. A group of men loyal to Confederate General Jeff Davis gathered around each house to protect their families and belongings. As night fell, these men surrendered to Union forces without any fighting. The following day,April 17th saw more violence as both sides fought for control of Bartlett. Many people were killed or wounded in this battle; including one man who was shot through his heart while standing next to his home
Bartlett was a small town in southeast Tennessee until the early 20th century. The town was founded by John Bartlett in 1827, and it grew rapidly after becoming a post office in 1829. By 1840, Bartlett had over 100 residents and was the largest town in eastern Tennessee. However, during the American Civil War, Bartlett sided with the Union side and lost its status as a community. In 1865, Bartlett merged with nearby Prentiss to form Prentiss-Bartlett County.
