He did so on December 8th 1883 while attending a hunting party near White Sands Lake outside of town limits! On March 5th1885 Larkin Smith located land southeast of town limits within what is now known as Ross County and filed an application for homesteading which was accepted on April 1st 1885 . On May 2nd1885 he purchased 640 acres from James Kellar for $3 per acre!!!!!!!!! This purchase would eventually become part of Springfield Township which would incorporate into Bartlett on November 3rd 1913 . In 1886 James Robertson built his home just east of town limits and started selling gunpowder stores….This area now known as South Avenue had previously been called “Robertson”s Store” because it served primarily as a stop on the road between downtown Bartlett and Springfield Township

Bartlett had a school district until 1957 when it merged into the Davidson County School District The Anderson Elementary School and Middle School closed in 2001 and 2002 respectively; their students were consolidated into nearby East High School which reopened that year with new facilities.
