Bartlett is a small town in Tennessee, located along the Cumberland River. The population was 1,493 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnson County Micropolitan Statistical Area. Bartlett was founded in 1827 by Captain John Bartlett and his family. Bartlett had been a slaveholder in Kentucky and moved to what is now Tennessee to escape chains and labor on plantations. He arrived at what is now Bartlett with his pregnant wife and five children, bought land from General James Knox, who then served as governor of Tennessee, and built a cabin near the river for himself and his family. In 1829 he married Myrtilla Hinton, who had also come from Kentucky. They operated a ferry across the river until 1840 when they sold their business to Joseph Tilton Sr., son of an American Revolutionary War captain. In 1845 Tilton donated land for a Baptist church which became known as First Baptist Church of Bartlett. The original building still stands today, used as offices by the town government until 2000 when it was taken over by the former mayoralty office. The community experienced heavy violence during World War II; three residents were killed in 1942 alone while serving in the military or being drafted into service (the majority were teenagers). After that time most residents have worked within their local communities or found other ways to contribute to society outside of their home town center; however some people have continued to live there through inheritances or retirement VFAs (Voluntarily Front-Line Employees). Some buildings still stand which serve as locals' landmarks - one such example being First Baptist Church'soriginal pews dating back to 1845 are currently on display inside the building lobby before being auctioned off online beginning October 2nd!

Bartlett is a small town in Hardeman County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,644 at the 2010 census. It was named for John Bartlett, an early settler. The first permanent settlement in what is now Bartlett was made on the farm of Isaac Caulfield by James White and his family in 1819. A post office called Bartlett was established in 1827, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1880. In 1830, General Andrew Jackson came to the area and founded the town of Hickory Hill on land that had been awarded to him as part of the Treaty of New Orleans following his victory over Mexico at Palo Alto. He named the new community after himself and he likely intended it to be his retirement home. However, within a few years Jackson had died at age 44 and most of his edifice never stood; only some foundations remain today. The first school in Bartlett opened its doors on December 5th, 1830, with ten students enrolled from six families under the direction of Mrs. Sarah Simpson (later Mrs. Rogers). The school closed during prohibition because there were no adequate local schools available for children up until that time In 1859 Bartholomew Elementary School opened with twenty-six students under the direction of Mr. Wm Henson In 1865 Hickory Hill Consolidated School District No 2 merged into Hardeman County Central School District which then became Hardeman County Schools In 1972 a fire destroyed much of downtown Bartholomew includings two-thirds of all property used for classrooms . This loss forced closure but reopened six months later with new facilities . By 1984 all buildings except one were razed when Hawkins High School moved into its present location across Main Street from downtown
Bartlett was founded in 1838 by a group of farmers, including John Bartlett and his brother-in-law, General James H. Smith. The town was named for Colonel Arthur Barclay Bartlett, an American general who had fought in the Mexican War and the Seminole Wars. In 1847, the United States Congress approved a grant of land to the town from Andrew Jackson's estate. The grant included a millrace that still operates today. In 1861, Confederate troops burned down the local blacksmith shop and courthouse; this event is known as the "Bartlett Fire." The town experienced significant growth during Reconstruction; by 1870, it had more than 120 residents. However, after the end of Reconstruction in 1865, Bartlett declined to adopt a new political system or develop any lasting municipal policies. During its heyday, Bartlett boasted several hotels and several churches. However, by 1915 it had only 10 residents remaining and ceased to exist as an independent municipality.
