Bartlett is a small town in Robertson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga–area metropolitan area. The town was first settled by Scots-Irish immigrants in the 18th century. In 1862, Bartlett became the seat of Robertson County after it was reorganized from parts of Hamilton and Pickens counties. The county courthouse moved to Bartlett in 1887. In 1915, Bartlett got its own post office, which remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1978. According to the 2000 census, there are three churches located within the community: Baptist (built 1906), Methodist (1884) and Roman Catholic (founded 1898). In addition to agriculture and manufacturing, other significant businesses include a grocery store and two tire stores.

Bartlett was a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States until the early 20th century. The population was 1,500 at the time of its incorporation in 1868. It is now part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. The first settler in Bartlett was John Holcombe, who arrived there in 1811. Two years later, he married Margaret Todd and had two children: John and Martha. In 1814, George Hezekiah Bartlett moved to what is now Bartlett from Goodnow Township and set up a log cabin on the current site of First Baptist Church. By 1816, he had built a more permanent home on land that he donated to the community for use as a school house. The first schoolhouse was built about 1800 by General David Sinclair with funds provided by Mr. Holcombe. In 1865, James Witherspoon purchased land east of Bartlett from David Dixon for $5 per acre; this became known as Witherspoon's Valley and remains so today. In 1870-71 Jeptha Lowdermilk platted what is now downtown Bartlett on some open ground just east of his home lot (now occupied by First Baptist Church). At that time it consisted only of an opening in the center of a small looped field off State Highway 69 near present-day McCullough Avenue (the road leading into downtown), north of which stood Lowdermilk's house and barns; across State Highway 69 were several other small buildings situated around a large common or oval space measuring about .Within days or weeks following Lowdermilk's platting, settlers began moving into their new homes - some coming from as far away as Lebanon and Nashville - and soon there were several stores, three churches (First Baptist being the first), four schools (one attended by boys only), five farmers' markets (), six wagons () carting goods to market each day., seven residents served on the hardwood council (), thirteen blacksmiths (), eleven farmhands (); one white laborer (). One resident summary gives examples dating back to January 718: "John Doe sold milk to Abel Perkins." "Nathan Green bought flour." "John Reed raised chickens." March 5th saw purchase "a horse worth two dollars" from William Hiteman.—On April 2nd came sale "a cow worth four dollars".—February 22nd saw purchase "two acres not included within [Lowdermilk]'s plat" which formed northeast corner Lots 10 & 11 along SR 70.—March 3rd saw purchase "four acres not included within [Lowdermilk]'s plat" forming southeast corner Lots 2 & 3 along SR 70.—April 4th sold Jesse Bowers 'five cows', eight hogs', fourteen beeves'." These examples document normal life during this period with purchases/sale items such as milk/flour/chicken/horse etc.; most likely significant transactions took place over long periods rather than all happening at once like many events did during this era when people lived close together in groups.(This information comes from Ewing Meeks’ book Hardin County Tennessee History) The first post office established in Bartlett was called Clinton on May 25th 1880; it closed down due to lack of mail support after only five months service.(From USGS TN Geographic Names Data Book) In 1886 voters elected James Fenton mayor; he served one term before becoming state senator.(From USGS TN Geographic Names Data Book)
