The town was originally named for Gideon Bartlett, a white settler who arrived in 1799 and founded a farm on what is now the corner of Main and Elm Streets. In 1853, John Laddfounded the first post office in Bartlett. In 1875, Josiah Findlay built the first schoolhouse in Bartlett. The people of Bartlett have long been involved with agriculture. Many of them are buried at the old Union Cemetery east of town. At one time there were over 100 businesses in Bartlett with an estimated payroll of $1 million per year! A few notable businesses include: J&J's Furniture Store (now closed), Foley's Barbecue & Grill (now closed), Sunrise Bank (now First Tennessee National Bank), and Federated Rubber Company (now known as Hormel Foods). Many residents still remember when it was difficult to get by without a car or public transportation; however, things have changed significantly since then. There are now several bus routes that service the community including Route 66 which runs through downtown; Route 11 which goes past Springdale into rural areas; andRoute 171 which goes to Lebanon Valley Mall across Interstate 24!

Bartlett is a small town in Franklin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1831 by General John Bartlett and named after his home state of Vermont. In 1842, it became the county seat of Franklin County. In 1870, the courthouse burned down and was replaced by a new one; in 1901, the courthouse again burned down and was replaced by a new one again. In 1907-1908, Bartlett had its first tornado outbreak which left 14 houses destroyed or damaged. In 1931-1932, Bartlett became known as "the birthplace of rock'n'roll." That year Elvis Presley moved to Graceland from Tupelo, Mississippi and recorded two tracks there: "I need You" and "Blue Suede Shoes". That same year also saw the first live performance at Municipal Auditorium (now FedExForum) by Joe Bonamassa with his group The Blue Notes
