After Wofford's departure from Chattanooga, business began to grow rapidly thanks to shortcuts taken by pioneers like John Roane who built a road through the woods leading out into central Ohio without getting lost or scared off by wild animals like bears or deer! This made it possible for farmers to get their goods directly to market without having to go through major cities such as Cincinnati or Pittsburgh where prices were too high or transportation was difficult/expensive. In 1907, Drury Lane Theater opened in downtown Athens and has been serving audiences ever since! By 1923, however, both races had become majority-minority cities within Athens proper. Today, Athens is known for its architecture and culture – including its many museums – as well as its diverse racial makeup which has included people of multiple races since it first started growing up around 1800.
In 1819, Athens was founded by John C. Calhoun as a town in McMinn County. In 1840, the town became the county seat and remained so until 1861 when it was moved to Nashville. The courthouse in Athens was destroyed in a fire in 1904 but was replaced with a new building that still stands today. The first school in Athens was built on State Street in 1844 and served students from nearby towns. The first library opened its doors in 1852 and is still open today.
