However, the city experienced a resurgence in the late 19th century due to industrialization and other changes inTennessee politics. As a result, during this period Athens reached its heyday as an important economic center with several major companies operating within its borders including Pabst Brewing Company, Georgia-Pacific Railroad Company, John Witherspoon Carriage Workshops etc
