Wassa served as an important stopping point on migration routes connecting Indian Territory with Nebraska during this time period; many pioneer families moved westward during this era looking for better opportunities than those available back east due to Native American hostilities toward white settlement throughout much of North America at this time frame In 1903 Watertown amalgamated with Aberdeen to form Aberdeen-Watertown City - one of several such merger events during that decade across North Dakota .
