At that time, it was the only store in town. By 1892, there were six businesses in Watertown with a total population of approximately 350 people. In 1904, the first post office was established in town and by 1912, the first telephone line had been installed in Watertown. On November 5th of that year, Mayor John Hennessey donated land to be used as a park for citizens of Watertown. The park is now known as North Park and includes a playground, basketball court, bandstand, fountain and surrounding streets. In 1916-1917 during World War I, young men fromWatertown enlisted in the United States Military and served overseas.
