The Rapid City rifle and shotgun parts history begins in 1882 when a local rancher, W. G. Huffman, started selling rifles and shotguns in the city. Huffman's store was located on the east side of Depot Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue. The store continued to operate until 1954 when it was closed by Huffman's son, C.W. Huffman Jr., due to financial difficulties. In 1927, Harry Power began importing firearms from England and began selling them through his stores in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Power's shop was located on First Avenue near Pine Street. In 1934, Power died and his son Harry Jr., took over the business operations. From 1935 to 1949, Harry Jr.'s sons Harold (Hank) and Franklin (Frank) operated the store under the name "Harry Power & Sons." By 1948, Hank had moved the store to its present location at 5th Street between Main and Center Streets. The store continued to operate until it closed in 1954 due to decreased sales volume caused by World War II industrial production stoppages in America combined with an increase in gun-related crimes across southern South Dakota during that time period. In 1957, Hormel Foods Corporation acquired a controlling interest in Harry Power & Sons from their father-in-law Frank Powers III for $2 million dollars cash plus stock options valued at $25 per share payable annually over five years . Under Hormel Foods Corporation ownership, the shop continued as "Harmaland Gun Shop" until its closure on October 1st of that year pursuant to a sale process which included bidirectional negotiations between source suppliers of parts needed for gun manufacturing as well as potential customers who desired access to those same parts without having them made available through HarmalandGunShop dealerships.. Aftermath of purchase: On October 1st 1957 - after almost fifty years of operation - Harmaland Gun Shop ceased operations following company acquisition by Hormel Foods Corporation

During World War I (1914-18), Rapid City was one of several cities served by Air Service Command's 1st Bombardment Wing which flew supplies to Allied forces fighting onthe front lines in Europe; during that time it became known for producing "canned goods" such as milk and meat products which were then distributed through military bases across North America. After victory in World War II (1941-45), rapid growth continued with businesses expanding into services such as hotel management and health care; today much of downtown remains largely unchanged from when it first emerged as a center for commerce more than 120 years ago

In 1907 Rapid City became part of the newly created Sioux Falls metropolitan area which included Sioux Falls, Rock Springs, Mitchellville, Centralia and Anadarko. In 1912 Rapid City annexed what were then Coweta Township east of its original boundaries to become its own municipality. On December 3rd of that year Mayor Harry Wirth announced annexation of adjacent towns Buffalo Grove to create another municipality called West Side Park; this merger did not take place due to lack of support from either party within thecity council for such an action
On July 1, 1889, Rapid City was erected as the territorial capital of South Dakota. It became an incorporated city on November 3, 1907. Rapid City hosted the 1912 and 2016 U.S. presidential elections.
