Scope mounts have been around for over a hundred years and their history can be traced back to Mitchell, South Dakota. In 1916, the first scope mount was created in the town of Mitchell by two friends, Charles W. Elliott and Willis A. Price. The mount consisted of a small tripod with an adjustable cross-bar that allowed users to adjust the height of the telescope at which it was mounted. This type of scope mount was used until the early 1960s when new types of mounts were developed that allowed for more accurate adjustments while still being able to be used with smaller telescopes. These newer mounts were called "scope ring" mounts and typically featured a ringset that allow users to attach different telescopes to different parts of the mount for easier viewing. Scope mounts are still being used today, both as historical relics and as modern day tools for amateur astronomers!

Scope mounts are devices that allow a rifle to be hung from the gun rack with its optics in place. They provide an extra level of support for the rifle and allow it to be placed at any angle. They come in a variety of designs, materials, and sizes to fit most firearms. Scope mounts are necessary for rifles that use magnification factors over 4x or 5x. A scope mount is also necessary if the rifle is being used with reflex sights, which require a higher degree of stability when mounted on a rifle than other types of sights.

Mitchell is a small town in South Dakota, located on the banks of the Missouri River. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of Riley County. The town was named for David Mitchell, a pioneer settler who arrived in 1872 and built a trading post near what is now Mitchell. The post served as a main artery for transportation and trade in the early days of Mitchell. In 1904, local officials decided to rename the town after John F. Mitchell, an American senator from Minnesota who had played an important role in developing South Dakota into one of the United States' fifty states. The name change came about because many people in Mitchell thought that John F. would be more fitting than David for the new community's namesake. Mitchell has seen some significant changes over its history. In 1916, it became one of only two towns in South Dakota to have its own school district; the other being Rapid City. In 1968, when South Dakota merged with North Dakota and became statehood territory, Mitchell lost its school district but kept its nickname as "the home of North Dakotans."

Scope mounts are a type of mounting system used in rifles and shotguns. Scope mounts allow the user to adjust the elevation and windage of a scope on the firearm, making it easier to point the rifle at targets. They were first developed during World War I by Lieutenant Colonel John A. Moulton and Captain Edward Smerdon, who designed a mount that allowed for easy adjustment of both elevation and windage with the use of an eyepiece. The mount was later improved by Major General Arthur E. House with his House-Barrett Scope Mount.[1] Scope mounts are now common on many firearms, including most assault rifles and shotguns, due to their convenience and ease of use. Many professional shooters rely on scope mounts as their primary shooting platform, as they give them greater flexibility when adjustments are required such as elevation or windage changes.

expand on scope mounts history Scope Mounts: The roots of modern optics go back to the early 1800s when British officers began using telescopes to improve their sighting techniques. Over time, different manufacturers produced various types and sizes of scope mounts, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. By the end of World War II, most Scope Mounts had been replaced by monopod-style mount systems. The development of tripod-style scopes in the early 1950s allowed for a greater degree of flexibility in mounting your telescope; however, it also increased the risk of moving your telescope if you were changing magnification or focus. In response to this increase in mounted equipment, many companies designed new types of scope mounts that allowed for more comfortable and stable use (including among others Celestron, Nikon, Zeiss and Meade). Some manufacturers even went so far as to create specialized monopod-style mounts specifically designed for astronomical Use. Today's ScopeMount technology is still evolving; however, there are several common designs that are used across a wide variety of applications including astronomy, astrophotography and hunting/fishing. When choosing a scope mount system be sure to consult with your favorite retailer or manufacturer directly to find a specific product that is best suited for your needs!
