In Sumter, South Carolina, the first gun sights were installed in 1851. These sights were designed to help shooters target targets with accuracy. The first gunsights used iron sights that resembled a crosshair on a screen. After years of development, eventually adjustable iron sights became popular and remain in use to this day. In 1857, the Sumter Rifle Club was founded and began using ball-and-socket mortars for firing military contracts. This led to the installation of gun sights that could be Adjusted to optimize range and trajectory. After the Civil War ended in 1865, many soldiers returned home and needed new firearms. Gunsmiths began designing new firearms with new sighting systems in mind. One such system was called “Sumter’s Crossman” which utilized a rotating crosshair sight located on an upright armature housing that rotated around an internal gear train. Later designs featured other features like screw adjustments for windage and elevation as well as periscopes for better Seeing at Night (Sighting at Dawn). By 1881, all of these types of rifles had been standard issue in the Confederate Army and Navy! By 1900, adjustable iron sights had become so common that they were no longer seen as necessary or advantageous; instead they were replaced by MIL-STD-1913 optics which allowed users to adjust magnification levels up to 3x for improved accuracy when shooting at close ranges or when hunting game underpowered by modern shotguns or rifles. Today there are still some people who prefer Iron Sights over Modern Optics because they believe that Iron Sight Design is more traditional looking than Modern Optics designs which often feature bright light technology on top of metal aiming devices

In 1870, Colonel James Worthy organized a militia regiment called the 1st Regiment of Cavalry which was stationed in Sumter County. As part of this organization, Colonel Worthy purchased two shotguns from Amos Dickson and mounted them on horseback to use as firearm sights. By 1875, there were already severalgun sight businesses located in Sumter County including Horseshoe House Gun Sight & Ammunition Shop (later known as Joad's Guns), Captain Willard's Firearms Emporium, and Squires' Pistol Shoppe among others. The first permanent gun sights in Sumter County were built by Captain Willard at his store in 1876. These sights consisted of an array of circles that could be rapidly aimed at targets with ease due to their simple design.
Sumter is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Spartanburg County. The name "Summer" comes from the Cherokee word for "summer." The first settler in Sumter Township was James McGill in 1826. The township was organized on February 10, 1828 by order of Governor John Cranch and named after General William Sumter who had been killed during the Mexican-American War. On May 12, 1868, it became part of Spartanburg County when that county was created from portions of York and Kershaw counties. The townships located within Sumter Township are: Allendale; Benton; Carney; Campbell; Creekside Heights; Cumberland Heights; Eatonville ; Gainesville ; Hartsfield ; Indian Spring ; King's Chapel (now known as King's Chapel Presbyterian Church); Lahndale ; Lakeshire Heights (); Magnolia Gardens (); Maggie Valley Parkway(); Morris Grove (); Mountain View (); Oakhurst (); Park (); Pinecrest () According to the 2010 census, there were 2,711 people living in Sumter Township: 1,827 households (or 51% of all households); 1,521 families (or 38% of all families); and 535 non-families (or 14% of all non-family households). With a population like this one can imagine what its like to have just two grocery stores and no other businesses nearby! In addition to groceries you will also need to find clothes or other needs if you want to do any shopping outside your home! There are only a few small shops open late night which is great if you don't feel like going out but not so great if you're looking for something specific!

In 1875, Sumter County was created from portions of the now-defunct Edgefield and Pickens Counties. At the time, it consisted of only a few scattered farms and was located in what is now rural Sumter County. The county seat was at Easley and for many years it served as the only town in the county. The first courthouse in Sumter was built in 1876. It served as the scene of much local politics until 1903 when a new courthouse was constructed on Post Road. The population of Sumter grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to cotton plantation work in the area and its location on a major route between Atlanta and Charleston. Cotton production ended after World War II but has continued since then with some small businesses still active today. In 1976, Sumter became one of thirty-six counties within South Carolina's newly formed Division of Corrections. This change came about because need for correctional facilities became apparent as more people were being sentenced to prison or probation than could be housed inside existing jails or prisons statewide. Today,Sumter is home to South Carolina's state penitentiary which opened in 1984 and provides confinement for inmates serving sentences ranging from six months to life without parole. Additionally, there are three other state prisons located throughout rural Sumter County: one at Pee Dee Correctional Facility outside terminate; One at Ladd Correctional Facility near Union; and one just outside Mount Pleasant that houses convicted sex offenders awaiting sentencingu
Sumter was a town in the U.S. state of South Carolina, located on the Sumter River. The population was 1,500 at the 2010 census. It is part of Greenville County. The town was founded in 1827 by² Gideon Welles and² Johnnie Hill as a two-year experiment to improve transportation between Greenville and Charleston using canoes and paddles from both towns. The town was named for General Sumter, who had commanded Confederate forces during the American Civil War. In 1828, Welles erected a log courthouse and first schoolhouse in what is now downtown Sumter; the first post office opened in 1830. In 1840, Gold Rush fever struck Sumter; about 60% of its residents left for California within six months of the gold discovery there. The community slowly recovered, but succumbed to malaria in 1849 which caused an epidemics that swept throughout much of America that year. By 1860, only a few buildings remained standing in downtown Sumter; most businesses closed during Reconstruction due to lack of resources or other opportunities available outside of South Carolina following the war effort including heavy investments by Yankees into railroads that transported goods southward from North Carolina through Georgia and Alabama to be sold before reaching Charleston via steamboats on the Savannah River estuary beyond Charleston Harbor where they were unloaded onto points nearaway from city limits: Augusta (GA), Dahlgrens Bridge (VA), Fayetteville (NC) & Wilmington (DE). Downtown business resumed after Reconstruction with many new buildings being constructed such as churches, schools and hospitals until around World War II when most demolition commenced due to urban sprawl brought about by automobile travel increasing access potential for development without close proximity to factories or services along major highways making it difficult for small businesses or farmers to compete against larger businesses with greater acreage/markets etc., leading some people - especially developers - advocating for retention rather than demolition or redevelopment as this would create more jobs/vilification likely leading people towards sustainable living practices etc.; however most recent plans call for demolition/reconstruction over an existing street grid plan which would result in loss of character &historic integrity which has been lamented by many who have resided here over many years
