Summerville is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 5,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled by African Americans in 1837 and it became an all-white community in 1910. Summerville is home to the Summerville Taser Museum which features exhibits on weapon history and technology as well as displays on local civic issues and concerns. The towns original tasers were made by Boston Scientific Corporation and were used for self-defense purposes only. They were not massproduced until the early 1970s when they began to be used more commonly for felony prosecutions. Today, there are over 50 different types of tasers available on the market, with most being designed for personal use or law enforcement use only. Some models have been converted into stun guns or pepper spray devices – making them ideal tools for public safety or citizen protests!

There is a long and varied history of tasers, dating back to the 18th century. Tasers were first used as belts for restraints in prisons and other correctional institutions. In the 1960s, they became an integral part of law enforcement after being approved by the US Congress as a tool to control violent crime. They are now used widely throughout the world, with over 200 countries using them. The weapon has been variously called a "weapon of choice" or "the new normal." The history of taser usage began with demonstrations in 1865 by Dr. John Alder Wright at Johns Hopkins University. Wright designed a electric shock weapon that could be wielded like a cane but was much more powerful, capable of sending victims staggering back several feet or even running into walls. He demonstrated his weapon at Baltimore's Pratt Institute before presenting it to Captain James Fenton on May 12, 1865. Fenton ordered 10 devices made and gave them to officers in Philadelphia during the summer of 1865 as part of a law enforcement experiment known as Project Fearless. Tasers have since undergone many changes, most notably their development into what we know today as taser guns – devices that can fire electric shocks instead of traditional firearms shots (though there is still some risk associated with these weapons). There are dozens of types and models available on the market today, each with its own unique capabilities and uses. Some common features include stun grenades- which can incapacitate someone temporarily- pepper spray units which can disrupt communication- nonlethal munitions such as beanbags or tear gas pellets-and electric shockguns (EUGs). Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages specific to it (for example Stun Grenades tend not to cause permanent injury), but all offer immense potential when used together in effective policing techniques. Despite this wide variation, there remain some key principles underlying all types: 1) Tasers should only be used when absolutely necessary; otherwise they may result in serious harm or death to those involved; 2) Officers should maintain control over their subjects while using tasers; 3) Units should be programmed specifically for use against specific targets(s); 4) Care must be taken not to exceed authorized levels of force; 5) Use must always comply with local laws and regulations governing police use analog weaponry

Summerville was a small town in Pickens County, South Carolina, until the late 1800s. It is located on the Hiwassee River and derived its name from Summerville Plantation, which was founded in 1785 by General James Wilkinson. In 1819, Summerville became part of Uniontown after the Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolution. The first post office in Summerville was established on November 1, 1824. The town was named for summertime occurrences such as thunderstorms and lightning. By 1830, there were only three businesses in town--a store, a blacksmith shop, and a canal mill. However, during this time periodSummerville experienced some important events that have left an impact on its culture and community. In 1833-34, Elijah White developed Battle Mountain Spring water into what is now known as Summerville's most popular product. This event helped to propel Summerville into prominence as a center for agricultural production. Additionally, during this time period President Andrew Johnson visited Summerville twice to campaign for reelection. Summerville is home to the Summerville Mall and several other businesses and services. The town's economy is based on manufacturing, tourism, education, and research. The Town of Summerville sprang up around a military post during the 1860s. A post office was established in 1865 and by 1870 it had become an incorporated village under the name of Spearfish. In 1871 summerville became the seat of Spartanburg County when it was organized from portions of Wilkesboro and Uniontownships. In 1932 summerville incorporated as a city with a population of 30,000 people. At that time it was one of five cities in South Carolina with populations over 100,000 people including Charleston (20000), Savannah (250000), Hilton Head Island (150000), Myrtle Beach (105000) and Greer (75000). During World War II many Allied troops were stationed here including Patton’s Third Army which arrived at Toucan Point on July 2nd 1944 after crossing the Atlantic Ocean from Europe via Cape Hatteras.. Toucan Point Naval Air Station played an important role in supporting this effort with its aircraft ferrying reinforcements to beaches throughout Normandy while also providing early warning against German landings along the coastlines south of England. After hostilities ended there were few military uses for Toucan Point but it continued to be used by civilians until 1972 when it reverted back to naval use as Mayport Naval Air Station-Summerville
