Summerville is a small town in Charleston County, South Carolina. It is located on the banks of the Ashley River and has been known for its fishing and shooting attractions since the late 1700s. In 1831, Summerville was founded by Captain John Herrington as a trading post on Hilton Head Island. The town grew rapidly due to its location and began offering firearms training programs to local men in the 1840s. By 1865, summerville had become an important center for firearms trade and manufacturing in the state. In that year, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia after losing his army's battle of Gettysburg. As a result of this event, Summerville became one of several towns in southern South Carolina to fall victim to Union forces during the Civil War. After the war ended, summerville reverted back to its previous status as a farming community until around 1920 when it began hosting annual rifle matches known as "The Gun Show." These matches were often used by law enforcement officers and other government officials as a means of testing new firearms before they were sold to more public members. From then until World War II, summerville continued to be an important center for firearm production and trade within south central SC. However, after World War II there was little military activity done in or around summerVILLE so most gun related businesses closed down or changed hands over time. With all these changes, it is difficult to determine how much influence firearms had on summerVILLE's economy during this time period; however, whatever effect it may have had will likely be lost forever within the memories of many residents who lived here during those years!

Summerville is a small town in the state of South Carolina. It is located on the Savannah River, about 20 miles from Charleston. The town was founded in 1807 by white farmers and their African slaves. In 1860, it was part of the Confederate States of America. After the Civil War, Summerville became an independent city.
Summerville is a town in Berkeley County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,503 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Augusta Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Summerville was John Sanford in 1814. The town was named for General James Gadsden, who fought at the Battle of Saratoga and later served as a U.S. Senator from Georgia. In 1827, Isaac Norris built an log cabin on the banks of the Neuse River adjacent to what is now Main Street. Norris ran a ferry service between Summerville and New Bern until his death in 1829. In 1856, Averill Booth bought land east of Summerville and built a plantation called Bogue Plantation near present-day Camden Road and US 129 Alternate (now US 421). He employed African Americans to work his plantations until 1863 when he sold them to Jno Covington Sr., who moved them to Bogue Plantation north of Summerville where they remain today as part of the Olde Towne community area known as "Bogue Station". During World War II, many workers from nearby Augusta worked on munitions plants in nearby Elizabeth City while others worked at local mills and factories throughout South Carolina; some 15% of all men working in Charleston were employed by these industries duringWWII. Many residents left their homes for war-time jobs but those that remained faced rationing which caused many hardships such as no access to indoor plumbing or education beyond basic skills so that most residents could not even read or write without help from family members or friends living abroad . The population was 2,914 as of the 2010 census. The summerville post office has been in operation since 1835. The Summerville area was first settled by African Americans in 1824. They were called "the Colts" because they worked on farms near Stockbridge and other plantations during the early 1800s in what is nowColumbia County. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, many white men returned to work on plantations and farms west of Summerville while African Americans continued to be discriminated against and marginalized until the early 21st century. Today, most residents are African American or Hispanic descent. Summerville was founded by Captain James Fenton on July 4th, 1835 as a summer residence for his wife's family when he became Major General James Fenton's Deputy Quartermaster at Yorktown Peninsula plantation outside Charleston. Lt Col David Hunter named it after Colonel John Summerville who had served with him under Maj Gen Andrew Pickens during the Indian Wars from 1775-1781 and again from 1786-1789 at Fort Moultrie south of Charleston where Hunter also served as commanding officer before becoming a Lieutenant Colonel under Pickens' command at Yorktown Peninsula plantation following its acquisition by Fenton in 1805.
