Summerville is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The townsite was surveyed in 1836 by Captain James Moore and named for General John C. Summerville who had fought in the Seminole Wars and against Creek Indians. In 1851 it was renamed for General Poultney Mifflin after his victory at Battle of Kings Mountain. The town site currently includes parts of Dutchtown and German Village settlements along with most of Summerville Proper including the riverfront areas on Hilton Head Island between Spanish Fort and Georgetown Heights neighborhoods which were all developed as summer retirements specifically for military service personnel during World War II One hundred fifty acres (81 hectares) of what is now Summerville Proper were set aside as a public garden in 1898 by Mayor J.D. Payne with funds contributed by Governor Joseph Easley to promote rural development in Spartanburg County Summerville first post office opened on July 1, 1887 under the name English Hill It changed its name to Spruce Run on October 5, 1907 On December 10th 1912, it exchanged postal rates with nearby Frenchtown
There is no one single history of the AR15 upper receiver. Instead, there are a number of different histories that can be traced back to the early days of this firearm. The first AR rifles were designed in 1947 by Eugene Stoner and Richard M. Garand. These rifles were known as the Stoner-Garand Rifle, and bore a resemblance to the then-current designs for Thompson submachine guns and pistols. The design featured a gas-operated action with a select fire feature, similar to that used in modern assault rifles. In 1961, another designer named John Browning created the first true military AR rifle, which was based on his earlier civilian rifle design called the Browning Hi-Power. This rifle was developed specifically for use by Special Forces troops and law enforcement officers around the world. It featured an adjustable gas system, flash hider/muzzle brake, detachable bipod legs, and other features specific to its purpose. Throughout these years, various revisions to both civilian and military AR designs were made; however, none of them reached widespread adoption until 1996 when developer George Pabst introduced theconceptualized "A2" configuration into circulation with his semiautomatic rifle dubbed "Pistolgrip"). This new design featured wide receiver baseplates that could be rotated about their axes using two arms (the left arm being inverted so it looked like an index finger), giving it more flexibility when handling firearms acouple with stocks of any type (standard or Beretta style) built for it such as those produced by Colt Firearms Corporation after World War II. This transformation from militaria into full-blown consumer firearms finally happened in 1999 with Pabst's release of his redesigned "AR15." Summerville is a town in Floyd County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,507 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia Metropolitan Area. Summerville was founded in 1849 by General James Wilkinson and his family as a small community on the Hiwassee River. In 1860, Wilkinson marriedadditional family member Anna Coulter and moved to what is now called Maycomb County. He organized a county seat for that area, which he named after himself, Summerville. When he died in 1892, Anna Coulter continued to live there until her death in 1951. As one of the smaller towns in Floyd County during the early years of its existence, Summerville had limited means to support itself financially and so it developed a strong relationship with its surrounding communities-this has been evident throughout its history as an agricultural center with cattle and poultry production being its mainstay economy until recently; however, recent developments have led to some new businesses being established within the town limits including retail space for local farmers and entrepreneurs from outside of town as well as an arts district that features several galleries and restaurants catering to locals and commuters alike Summerville's first settlers arrived in early 1849 when General James Wilkinson sailed downriver from New Orleans on the steamboat John Covington with his family. His goal was to find land grant opportunities for those who would follow him westward into Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). After landing at present day Maycomb Island off Miami River near where summervillesite now stands they set out on foot through difficult terrain covered only by shrubs along their journey home across open country known then as "the Great Review." When they finally reached civilization they were met by friendly Indians who gave them food and shelter before selling them land east of modern day Knoxville (modern day Chattanooga) for $4 per acre. They built their first house - located today on Broad Street just south of downtown - around this time In 1860 another group of pioneers came downriver from Tennessee looking for better soil conditions than what they found upstream at Knoxville/Chattanooga . Several families decided to stay here permanently including Mr & Mrs Moody’s seven children born here between 1851-1857 The development of cotton plantations further downstream (in what are now Alabama) forced large numbers of people northward into southern South Carolina during this period leading directly to increased competition among these newcomers for jobs available right here on Plantation Row especially since there were few if any government services or infrastructure available beyond basic roadsbuilding etc.. Many people became indentured servants working off passage while others simply took whatever work could be got hold of without much ado due eitherto poverty or racism ). Interestingly enough many residents hereabouts still maintain close ties even though most have left Tallahassee over time Summervilers generally enjoy good weather all year round whether it be hot days or cold winter nights!
Summerville was founded in 1729 by Colonel James Moore. The town became a surveyor's post in 1753, and then a seat on the Meeting House Board of Commissioners in 1764. In 1814, Summerville was chartered as an incorporated town. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Easley bought land in Summerville and began construction of his Whitehall plantation south of town. After the Battle of Gettysburg, Confederate forces withdrew from the area, but Easley continued to build his plantation until he died in 1865. His slaveholders moved their slaves to new plantations near Columbia after his death. Summerville has been home to several colleges and universities since it was laid out as a town: Summerville College (1814), Clemson University (1865), South Carolina State University (1932), and now Youngstown State University.
