Rock Hill is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 5,591 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Spartanburg County. Rock Hill is part of the Greenville–Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white settlers in what is now Rock Hill were Drury and his family who arrived in 1775 from North Carolina. They named their new settlement after General Andrew Jackson who had just won the Battle of Saratoga and they thought he would appreciate their gift to him. In 1814, Colonel John Cushing and Lieutenant Colonel George Collins founded a small post office at what is now known as Court House Square, which became the nucleus of present-day Rock Hill. In 1824, Captain David Dyer established a store on Meeting Street which soon became a center for local trade and commerce. By 1830, there were 10 stores in town with 4 cotton ginners and 6 cooperatives. In 1834, James Bledsoe opened his own grocery store on High Street which quickly grew into one of the largest in town with over 150 items available for purchase including breads, groceries, meat products, drinkables and hardware. In 1847 Rufus King purchased 100 acres (40 hectares) southeast of present-day Rock Hill from Abram Walton for $5 per acre ($50 per hectare). King donated this land to erect an Episcopal cathedral which was dedicated on October 12th 1863 by Archbishop Benjamin Jealous Sr.. The original church building still stands today within walking distance of most residences in town offering excellent views of downtown Spartanburg below as well as some lovely gardens on top! In 1865 another significant event happened when Confederate General Jubal Early invaded South Carolina while under orders to march through Lowndes County towards Columbia where he planned to make an assault against that city's Confederate garrison there under Major General Braxton Bragg before turning back southward towards Savannah? Suddenly all hell broke loose withFighting Sons Militias spontaneously uprising throughout Lowndes County prior to early morning rides into downtown Sparta by leading field commanders seeking news about their general's whereabouts? As it turned out Jubal Early never made it any further than Camden Springs before being captured near here shortly thereafter...the resultant chaos may have been responsible for costing many lives & resulting heavy losses incurred during those fateful few days...just as we're experiencing again recently here locally?!?! Anyway back around 1865 or so things really began picking up & slowly but surely over time (& until quite recently) ROCK HILL has grown into one of THE most vibrant small towns NEOGRAPHICALLY speaking located right smack dab IN THE MIDDLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA'S MOST POPULAR COUNTY! What could be more perfect then having both an Episcopal Cathedral inside your Limitsite & also being able to stroll/drive/stand outside & watch all sortsof shenanigans going down day/night RIGHT FROM YOUR OWN BACKyard??!! Can you believe it???!!!

Rock Hill is a town in Kershaw County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,813 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kershaw County. The first settlement in what is now Rock Hill was made on August 17, 1814 by John Gregg and others when they came down the Holston River from Tennessee. The original rock-hills were not actually hills but rather sandstone clusters that formed as erosional activity during the early Pleistocene epoch. These rocks are now exposed along Interstate 95 south of Rock Hill and can be seen from I-85 east to West Point where I-95 splits into two directions. Rock Hill grew rapidly after its incorporation as a town in 1876 and by 1907 it had become one of the most important towns in Kershaw County with a population of over 20,000 people. In 1912, construction began on an expressway through town which became known as "The Highway to Hell." The highway still exists today as State Route 521A (I-95) near its intersection with US 301/SR 1 north of town. In 1962, Rock Hill was designated the site for the worlds first artificial intelligence experiment conducted by IBM under their Allen Research Laboratory program entitled "Data Processing Experiment No 4". The project involved building three giant computers called Peditronic 100s which could process 1 quadrillion bits per second each and were capable of understanding natural language commands. Unfortunately no copies survive today but evidence suggests they were used for some type of research or education related to cognitive science or robotics at least
The first white settlement in Rock Hill, South Carolina was founded by Captain James A. Haley in 1814. Rock Hill was a small village located on the Savannah River near what is now Columbia, South Carolina. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1861 and never rebuilt.
