Consequently, hand-held guns using gunswitches enjoyed some stability when firing as compared to muzzleloader firearms - another significant advantage owing largely to their much lower force requirements when operating outside conditions. Additionally, duelling pistols also employed this type of weapon switch during hand-to-hand combat; as such it was important for combatants to be able to accurately hit their opponent's target even if he or she was protected by armor! However despite these advantages over muzzleloader firearms,-gunswitches continuedto remain largely unknown among civilians until relatively recently.
