Orangeburg is a town in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 5,883 at the 2010 census. It is the largest community in Richland County and one of the most populous communities in the state of South Carolina. Orangeburg was founded on April 12, 1784 by John Aiken and James Buchanan as a small settlement called "Albemarle" on a high bluff overlooking Paynes Creek. Orangeburg's location on this bluff allowed it to become very important for trade with nearby Savannah and other southeastern settlements such as Charleston. As part of efforts to develop transportation links between Savannah andRichmond counties, Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest designed and built the first road through what is now Orangeburg County in 1825. This road became known as "The Forrest Road". In 1859, the Confederate Army burned down President Abraham Lincoln's Springfield home while he was attending a convention at his plantation near Uniontown; this event led to increased demand for goods from Richmond because people thought he had been captured and executed. In 1865, General Pemberton ordered General Stoneman to burn down Orangeburg after discovering that much of its cotton crop had been grown without permits or license from local farmers. However, Stoneman refused to do so until orders were given direct from higher headquarters. Eventually all of southern South Carolina – including Orangeburg – came under Union military occupation following the American Civil War (1861-1865). As Reconstruction began in South Carolina following the end of hostilities, many African Americans were forcibly transported northward as slaves or into new markets where they faced greater challenges than they did when they lived within Confederate lines. Although some prosperous black families did migrate north during this time period (such as those associated with Judge David Levy’s wagon company), many others remained behind in their original towns or villages until after World War II when white flight began406 In 1970–1972 an Agricultural Experiment Station operated by Clemson University surveyed citrus crops in sections of Richland County south of Interstate 95 407 After years of study we determined that orange production could be increased if irrigation water canals were constructed connecting these areas with larger rivers 418 Today there are over 20 businesses located within walking distance of downtown 401 The city has undergone several name changes over time: Albright City (1924), Greenville (1928), Dunwoody Heights (1959), Oconee Junction (1967), then Bankside Village (1984) 411 When First Baptist Church opened up on Main Street Redbirds grocery store adjacent to Main Street bar ceased operations on December 15th 1984 412 At present downtownOrangeburgh has 4 restaurants/bars 413 There are also several large parks located within walking distance 414 DowntownOrangeburgh offers nightlife which includes live music 415 Incidentally downtownOrangeburgh is also home to two football teams; both members of Division II—the Blue Jackets played their first game against each other October 14th 2015 416 Recently another major development has occurred; construction is underway for an arena that will house multiple sports events including concerts and professional wrestling 417 Although not directly affiliated with any school(s) mentioned herein - I would like to point out that there is significant student support group activity related specifically to education here 418

Orangeburg, South Carolina is a town in Richland County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Richland County. Orangeburg was founded on July 3, 1775 by Captain John Smith and colonists from England as an agricultural community named for Colonel James Orange of the British Army. The first school in Orangeburg was opened in 1805 by Reverend Hernando De Soto and Dr. George Washington Barnett. A brick school building located at 302 W Main Street still stands today and serves as the vestige of Orangeburg's early educational ambitions. In 1829, Orangeburg became part of newly created Richland County and developed into a vibrant center for cotton farming with plantations that produced more than two million pounds (1 billion kilograms) of cotton during its peak years between 1830-1860. The development of railroad transportation made orange groves available to other farmers throughout southcentral America which led to increased production supplemented by organized marketing programs that included pricing systems specific to each class of crop or type of market
Orangeburg was founded by the Cherokee in 1795. It was the last colony established by the Cherokees, who had been pushed out of their homeland by white settlers in the late 18th century. The town grew quickly, and in 1812 it became a separate county. In 1850, Orangeburg became part of South Carolina when that state was created from parts of Georgia and Alabama.
