In 1886, orange groves began to be planted in what would become Downtown Orangeburg; this led to increased development around the area including many new businesses and homes which continue today as part of Downtown Orangeburg's core shopping district known as "The Brickyard". In 1925, it resulted in an agreement between the two municipalities that laid out plans for downtownOrangeburgh's future which includes continued growth both up and down Broadway Street towards John F Kennedy International Airport

Orangeburg, South Carolina is a small town located in the southeastern part of the United States. The population was 7,975 at the 2010 census, making it the sixth-most populous municipality in Orangeburg County. The town is home to Orangeburg High School and numerous other local businesses and organizations. The history of Orangeburg goes back to 1795 when John Tryon founded a small settlement on what is now east side of Main Street in Orangeburg County. Tryon named his new community after his father, James Tryon, who had settled in South Carolina some years earlier. For many years, Orangeburg functioned as a farming village with several homes and barns used by locals for storage or for housing cows and pigs. In 1827, following the Battle of Buena Vista Bridge during the Mexican–American War, General Andrew Jackson invaded Texas and moved into central Alabama. After leading an army through Georgia and Tennessee before reaching Kentucky, he arrived in Georgia on July 10th declaring war on Mexico In order to support Jackson’s campaign against Mexico (and also because there were few English-speaking residents in Georgia), General William Troup established a military post at Fort Moultrie on December 13th 1827 (just south of present day downtown). This fort served as an important strategic location during Jackson’s march into Mexico City where he lost many soldiers including future President Ulysses S. Grant On March 21st 1830 John Capps purchased 1/4 acre (0.18 km2) of land from Samuel Denton near present day downtown Orangeburg for $25 per acre ($1 per hectare). This purchase marked the beginning of what would become one of Charleston’s largest real estate transactions ever made Capps built two large colonial Revival style houses – One on Elm Street between King Avenue and Queen Street (later renamed Damean Avenue) which still stands today; And The Other on Meeting House Road just east of Present Day Downtown orangeburgh Agrarian society women started picking apples off trees outside their homes starting early 1860's
Orangeburg was founded in 1776 by Captain John Nicholson and his wife, Judith. The Nicholson family were the first white settlers in Orangeburg County. In 1814, Orangeburg became a part of Charleston and was renamed Antigua.
