One of the first gun magazines in town was The Groom's Magazine, which was founded in 1892. It was located on Depot Street between High and Low streets. It continued to be published until 1953. Another early magazine was The Sporting News, which was started by Orville Richard Wright in 1894. It was located on Main Street between Indian Trail and Cemetery Streets. It continued to be published until 1951. The Gunsmith's Magazine began publication in 1895. It was located on King Street between Tryon and Cherokee Streets. It continued to be published until 1931. The Citadel Rifle & Pistol Club began publication in 1898 as The Citadel Review . After a few years it changed its name to The Citadel Journal . In 1902 it moved to 4th Avenue between Church Road and White Plains Road (now Wilson Boulevard). In 1916 it moved again, this time to 9th Avenue between Kingwood Parkway and Overton Park Drive (now Lee Highway). The journal Continued being published until 1984 when it became an imprint of Houghton Mifflin Company. In 1985 it reverted back to its original name of The Citadel Journal-Review

On May 3, 1881, the first gun magazine in North Augusta was opened by F. W. King and A.L. Brown. It was a two-story frame building on the northeast corner of High Street and Elm Avenue. It had a room for thirty magazines and an outbuilding for storage.
North Augusta is a city in Kershaw County, South Carolina. The population was 9,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kershaw County and home to the North Augusta Military Academy. The first permanent settler in what would become Kershaw County was David Denton in 1811. He built a cabin on what is now known as Live Oak Lane. In 1814, Captain James Beatty, an American Revolutionary War veteran and member of the South Carolina Convention who had fought against General Washington in Camden, founded a settlement called "Beatty's Ferry" on the upper Wateree River near present-day North Augusta. In 1835, Colonel John Clements erected a log cabin on land that he donated to Kershaw County for use as a county courthouse. The building became known as the Old Courthouse and still stands today across from North Augusta High School. After years of development by farmers and entrepreneurs, Kershaw County was organized into two counties – Union and Cherokee – on March 1, 1889 under then-Governor Augustus Tilton . On July 1 of that year, both Union and Cherokee were combined into one county with North Augusta as its center following ratification by voters of an act entitled "An Act to Consolidate Districts within Kershaw (Union) County." On November 30th of that year ,North Augustawas given its own town charter which gave it full powers to vote Democrat until 1886 when it switched to Republican Party affiliation . As part of this consolidation process, much valuable real estate located east of downtown including many homes dating back centuries were acquired or donated by local business owners through condemnation proceedings brought against those who had abandoned their properties during that time period

North Augusta is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. North Augusta was established in 1868 and named for General James H. North. It became an incorporated municipality in 1889. The first session of the Spartanburg County Court took place on November 3, 1869, and the first election to that body was held on December 4th. The town of North Augusta upon its establishment had a population of only six persons; but within two years it had reached a size which induced the board of supervisors to make it an incorporated municipality with a vote of "yes" on January 3rd, 1890. Population growth has continued apace ever since; and as early as 1910 there were 1,811 people living in the town limits. The most recent census taken in 2000 showed that the population had grown to 2,512 residents – making it one of the fastest-growing towns in Spartanburg County! In 1902 North Augusta built their own jail cell complex which remain today one of Spartanburg County’s most popular tourist destinations!
On July 4, 1863, the Confederate States of America (CSA) surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in Virginia. This event is generally considered the end of the Civil War. North Augusta was founded on August 14, 1837, by John Randolph and his wife Sarah Banning Randolph. The town had a population of about 350 people when it was first established. By 1860, its population had increased to 1,000 people. It became a city on May 15, 1865.
