By 1930, when white flight began to occur throughout most of South Carolina following World War II, most businesses had closed or become difficult to operate because of changes in government regulations related to race which affected many Southern communities at that time; however, many residents remained supportive of their community through various activities such as hosting agricultural fairs or Slow Cooker Cookouts during winter months.
Newberry was a small town in south central South Carolina from 1819 until it was destroyed by fire in 1876. The community had a school, Baptist church, and other basic needs. However, the town's destruction left an lasting legacy on the area. Newberry is now known as a ghost town because of its lack of development over time and the frequent fires that ravaged the town.
