In 1914 (the year before World War I), George Armstrong Custer was fatally shot by Sitting Bull near what is now Rosman Cemetery in southwest Spartanburg County just off US Highway 278 about two miles from where he had been grazing his horse Justus while Indians were raiding white settlements nearby including Fort Riley barracks just east of present day Rosman Cemetery Road; this event remains one of history's most well known murders taking place during America's Civil War period.; After many years of research conducted by local historian/librarian Darlene Barton & her husband Rick Barton over several weekends from May thru early June 2019 at their home located adjacent to Ft Riley National Park located within its boundaries - Discovering previously undocumented evidence - they have finally identified & authenticated [sic] as portions of 4 Confederate Veteran’s Monumental Crossings engraved into quartzite bedrock outside Reference Site(s) within Fort Riley National Park boundary approximately 12 miles southwest of modern day Rosman Cemetery Road approximately 8 miles northwesterly from old Freetown location - These areas formerly lay unnoticed but now become part of significant historical landmarks associated with both Battlefields locations during America’s First World War era conflict.; To date this discovery has yet to be published or even made available for public viewing other than through private researchers who are extremely privileged access thereto.; This discovery provides significant insight into one aspect of one side or another side’s attempt to control what has always been considered an important portion of our Nation’s ancestral heritage.; Although today much attention is paid to celebrating Memorial Day annually throughout America (& world) we should never forget those who fought & died for us back then., On July 14th 1865 Union Major General Ambrose Burnside relieved Confederate Lieutenant Colonel Sterling Price at Appomattox Court House following Price's surrender agreement offer which included repudiationof all terms offered by Burnside including Pickens Lt Col Robert Ewell--this event forever changed Confederate military strategy as it signaled Union intentions towards ending the American Civil War.--Price refused any offers made by Burnside & surrendered unconditionally 2 days later on July 17th 1865; this event also represented a turning point for Confederate Military strategy.-- price ultimately surrendered at Appomattox Court House rather than fight further against Union forces knowing that he would pay with his life

In 1861, Confederate General Robert E Lee ordered his forces into Spartanburg County because he believed that African Americans were loyal to the Confederacy instead of the United States Government As result of this order, many black residents fled to neighboring towns such as Greenville where they could not be arrested or persecuted by Confederate forces This event is known as "The flight of the blacks." Many black families also left for fear they would be drafted into military service under Confederate leadership Aftermath of this event included several fires that destroyed most structures within town limits including one which burned down houses on Broad Street Despite these challenges, some people persevered through thick cotton smoke during Reconstruction period and eventually rebuilt their lives After emancipation Proclamation all white citizens were required by law to register with local authorities within 72 hours unless they could provide special documentation proving they had lost their slaves All registered slaves were then subject to arrest if found without proper identification or working on any farm or plantations outside of white boundaries
