Newberry is a small town in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The population was 5,702 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Asheville-High Point micropolitan statistical area. Newberry is located on scenic University Hill, about 18 miles (29 km) south of Columbia and between Myrtle Beach and Charleston on the Atlantic Coast Highway. The community began as a Lutheran Settlement in 1792, when Christians from Hesse settled in what is now Newberry County with their families and animals. At first they used their own skills to farm but soon after they hired local farmers to help them with the work around their property which became known as "the plantation." In 1830, Isaac Newton became one of the founders of Newberry and served as its first postmaster; he also helped to found Presbyterian Church there in 1836. The town's economy grew slowly until after World War II when new manufacturing plants started up throughout South Carolina due to increased textile production during that period. After those plants closed down, jobs left Newberry for other places in South Carolina or overseas. However, many people still live there today because it has a strong sense of community culture and proximity to nature that makes it an attractive place to stay for tourists or residents who want to enjoy some peace and quiet away from hustle and bustle cities like Columbia or Charleston. Newberry is home to two high school schools: Forest High School (grades 9-12) which was established in 1959 by then Superintendent Marvin Crouch along with neighboring schools White Hall Consolidated School District No 1 (grades 7-8) and West Laurens Consolidated School District #2 (grades 6-8). The towns government passed an ordinance establishing Forest High School on January 15th, 1960 following a Request for Proposal issued by Goudy & Co., Incorporated - makers of Appalachian Trail race food products - seeking proposals for agreements covering all types of horticulture education including agricultural/forestry programs offered at various high schools within adjacent districts living within three miles thereof...Inaugural classes met on September 3rd 1961 under guidance of Mrs Mable Cooks McCauley with enrollment totaling 38 students including 8 girls attending Forest HS... Mrs Cooks became superintendent upon her retirement effective December 1st 1984 After years without any real development going on in Newberry due to lack of interest from businesses or infrastructure investment by either side, things changed when entrepreneur Bobby Sledge came into the picture back in 2006 with his planto create a walkable community composed entirely of privately funded restaurants inside self contained retail centers situated throughout each village block which would offer pedestrians access both indoors and outdoors directly across public intersections direct from commercial establishments offering great deals off food items

Newberry is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Newberry is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The original town site was laid out in 1799 by Joshua and Mary Newberry, settlers from Yorktown, Virginia. It post office began issuing patents on May 6, 1802. In 1819 the town voted to become a state parish and was incorporated as such on February 8, 1821. Newberry's rich history can be traced back to its earliest days as a small settlement located along U S Route 21 just outside of Spartanburg. Joshua and Mary Newbery were among the first residents of this area which included present day Spartanburg and parts of what is now Orangeburg County. They set about creating a new community in what is now known as Old Portsmouth Township after watching the construction of Portsmouth Plantation near their home village on Yorktown Peninsula (now Hampton Roads). Joshua’s brother George founded Asheboro in 1799 while he served with General James Moore’s army during the American Revolution; Asheboro quickly became one of the most important settlements in North Carolina due to its strategic location at the crossroads connecting two major slave trading routes - one through Wilmington through which enslaved Africans were taken from North Carolina to Georgia and then sold into slavery there; and another coming down south via Fort Sumter through which slaves were sent back up northern Georgia for shipment down south to Charleston or Mobile Bayou where they were worked off until purchased by whiteowners or died from disease or accidents. Joshua Newbery had been living in Petersburg when he realized that if he could find enough land for his growing family he could create an agricultural society with himself as its leader and provide them with everything they needed including food sources within easy reach while also allowing them privacy so that they could work their land without fear of being raided by neighboring farmers or pirated goods entering their homes from nearby plantations. He found 10 acres (4 hectares) available east of Sparta on which he built a log cabin called “The Log Cabin” – later known as “The Old House” – intending it only as his personal residence but soon realized how useful it would be for others associated with his new community too since it afforded direct access to water supplies necessary for cultivation whereas many other settlements at that time depended upon imported water brought overland from far away towns like Elizabeth City or Augusta. Joshua started building roads into his new community proper – much later becoming State Senator here – because there wasn't yet any transportation available between Sparta and his fledgling settlement other than walking or horseback riding which led to numerous injuries and even some fatalities amongst early settlers who often walked hundreds of miles each week travelling distances upcountry against dangerous terrain conditions while carrying all their equipment plus additional items like tents, cooking utensils, baggage etc., all 35 pounds (15 kilograms) each! Even today many people visit Historic Newberry during summer months when temperatures exceed 40°F (4°C) simply because there are no better places around these parts! In less than two years following incorporation Newberry had developed some basic infrastructure including schools, churches, a jail/ prison system (which still exists), gristmill & sawmill complexes - all operated by local farmers contracted onto specific projects thereby freeing up more farmland for planting thereby leading eventually to increased production rates & prices across entire county resultant in significant economic growth over ensuing years culminating finally in erection of stockade walls surrounding original town site circa 1830 blockading access not only locally but also deep inside adjacent unincorporated areas resulting ultimately in limited ability for outsiders ever permanently residing within limits originally envisioned! With increasing trade opportunities opening up throughout entire country starting with Drury’s Rebellion & Mexican War onward various businesses sprung up catering specifically thereto rangingFrom lace making (& particularly corsetmaking thereafter!) until oil exploration commenced yielding huge profits achieved primarily thru exportations both inland & abroad boosting whole economy wide $5 million USD initially invested ≈ current value/stock extant
