This change indicates that bipedalism wasn’t always necessary for them to survive and led some scientists to believe that bipedalism may have arisen independently multiple times throughout history.
Newberry is a small town located in the eastern part of South Carolina. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. Newberry is home to many businesses and cultural institutions that contribute to its unique character. One such institution is the Newberry Community Museum, which focuses on history and culture in the town. The name Newberry comes from an early settler, Isaac Newbery, who named his farm after a place in England where he had been born. The first post office in Newberry was established in 1857, and it continued serving until 1959. In 1922, a school was opened in the town by Mrs. Cushing of Greenville and Mrs. Aiken of Columbia County. Classes began on October 1st that year and lasted until May 3rd of 1923 due to financial constraints associated with World War I when much of southern South Carolina was still under federal control because of the war effort. Today, Newberry has many businesses that contribute to its strong economy including two banks (one national bank and one independent), several restaurants/bars/cafes/stores, as well as a library system with more than 25 branches statewide! There are also numerous cultural organizations operating within the community such as jazz clubs, art galleries, music festivals and more!

Newberry, South Carolina is a small town located in the Soil and Water Conservation District of Columbia County, south of the racial divide that separated black from white residents. The population was 3,183 at the 2010 census. Newberry has a rich history dating back to before European settlement. It derives its name from John Newbery, an Englishman who came to South Carolina in 1795 as a surveyor. He named one of his two settlements "Newberry" after this location. In 1802, new settlers arrived in what is now Newberry and established a log cabin near present-day downtown. A store was built on Main Street in 1806 and soon became the village's most important commercial outlet. By 1830, Newberry had become a thriving center for trade with neighboring counties andatchepolis (now Jackson) to the north and east. The village prospered through its own stores, schools, church services, Lion's Den Tavern (later called The Gables), and other public buildings until it fell victim to economic hard times during the Great Depression of 1930-1931. The community lost much of its businesses including its mills; however, some restoration work has occurred over time to restore some aspects of local history such as Old Newberry Road which leads into town from US 12E about two miles west of downtown Despite these setbacks, many people continue to call Newberry their home because there are few places like it remaining in southern Columbia County today - where almost all African Americans were living by 1860 . Newberry is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metropolitan area. Newberry is located on State Route 9 about 12 miles east of Spartanburg and 11 miles north of downtown Greenville. The first permanent settler in what is now Newberry was James Jackson, who arrived in 1775 from North Carolina with his family and started a farm near present-day Town Hall Road. In 1821, Thomas Carys moved from Georgia to start a plantation here which became known as Carys Station (later Carys). A post office called Newberry was established in 1823 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1828, John Dillard founded a small town about three miles northwest of present-day Newberry on the Yadkin River called Dorchester Springs. He named it after his home state of Vermont where he had been born. The first store building erected in Dorchester Springs was destroyed by fire but another store built nearby remains today as part of the Newberry Historical Museum (). In 1830 Samuel Hinson moved to Dorchester Springs from Maryland with his family and started a blacksmith shop which became one of the most important businesses in the community until it burned down during Reconstruction(). In 1840, Isaac Hawkins bought land adjacent to Dorchester Springs for $1,000 and began developing it into what is now known as Hawkinsboro. He named his new village after Ebenezer Howard whom he had met while serving time for disobeying court orders at Fayetteville Prison (). In 1849–1850 David McDowell purchased some additional land along State Route 9 south of Hawkinsboro for $3,000 and began developing this into what is now known as McDowellborough. On December 13, 1850 an act passed by the South Carolina General Assembly authorized the erection of a schoolhouse within five miles (8 km) of every township so that children might be educated according to their needs without being sent away from their homes to attend schools elsewhere (). This legislation led to establishment of Schools for Colored Children (), also known as Grades School or Free School District No 2 (), within five mile (8 km) radius around all townships by 1870 (). Ishmael Ford settled hereabouts about 1800 with six families who set up three farms – one near High Shoals Creek () on high ground overlooking both valleys below; one near Hawes Ferry (); and one near modern day Old Hickory Lake (). One group managed these farms together coming up with names such as: Ford’s Plantation (); Ashley’s Plantation (); White’s Plantation (); Smith’s Plantation (); Butler’s Plantation (); Garrity's Mill ()); Poorford's Farm ()—alluding either to their founders ancestry or economic situation because they were often tenant farmers sharingcroppers living off local resources.) A post office called Fordyce was established hereabouts November 15th 1860 () but continued only until 1861 when it changed its name to Greenville due to competition from Greenville Post Office (). In 1865 Jno Gentry took over operations at Fordyce Post Office.. later becoming Gentry & Son Seed Co., Incorporated.} After Union troops sacked Fort Sumter on April 12 1865 Confederate General Robert Ewell ordered all white people must leave Sumter except those remaining under custody including many black soldiers who were not allowed out ()) The innocent colored citizens were forced out onto plantations throughout South Carolina unless they could travel outside where they were slavery or auctioned off like animals.} From 1865 through 1870 there are few records documenting African American life other than owning slaves or working on white plantations.} Whites fled into surrounding counties making little impact upon African American settlers other than changing county borders which often resulted in expulsion()
