In 1821, Congress passed a bill creating Ashley County and naming it for Admiral John Ashley, one of America’s most distinguished naval commanders during its early days. Ashley had served as aide-de-camp to President George Washington during his successful War for Independence and later became a brigadier general under General Andrew Jackson at Pensacola, Florida before returning home to become Commander-in-Chief Marine Forces at Charleston Harbor during James Kansa’s Regency (1820–24). During Reconstruction following Reconstruction Amendments ratified in 1865, many African Americans were displaced from their homes following violence and fraud perpetrated by white supremacists known as “the Klu Klux Klan” which operated throughout much southern United States while blacks were banned from participating politically or practicing any form of civil rights whatsoever. Many African Americans found themselves living on plantations or fishing piers where they worked 12-hour shifts with little pay and no benefits until order could be restored through military action or legislation such as passage of Thirteenth Amendment granting black citizens voting rights on an equal basis with whites within three years after its ratification date on August 15th 1865; this amendment also abolished slavery throughout all United States save for Confederate areas that continued operation under a system known as “Planter” rule where slaves received free access to food, education, health care and other basic needs albeit subject to severe exploitation including forced labor on land owned by their owners/landlords.) In 1902 Orangeburg County was organized from parts of Ashley County when Judge Julius Ewing appointed Drury Hill mayoralty with power over election duties within city limits only though he resided outside city limits having jurisdiction over unincorporated territory totaling 6 square miles including downtown Myrtle Beach although residents enjoyed all municipal services provided through cooperation between City Council members who administered all essential functions except building permits & street maintenance etc.; fire insurance; water supply; garbage disposal; schools (eight Manual Training Schools opened across town providing instruction grades prekindergarten thru 12th grade plus two high school programs providing college level courses) Combined these eight Manual Training Schools educated over 4400 colored students & produced 4200 professional men resulting(1912)in creationofMyrtleBeach Municipal Housing Authority serving approximately 4000 colored families residence permit requirements ceased effective January 1st 1916 housing authority membership consisted primarily self contained apartments leased from private landlords wink wink

By 1941, Myrtle Beach had reached its current population of 11,500 people and still functions as an important economic center for southwestern South Carolina Since World War II, however, business activity has slowed down due to various factors such as high taxes and regulationsimposed by Charleston City Hall which have made it difficult for small businesses to survive inside the city limits In addition to low business activity rates and challenges faced by many small businesses throughout much ofSouth Carolina during this time period; some believe that Hurricane Katrina played a significant role in slowing down local economic growth once again Today there are several successful full-time restaurants along Bridge Street where locals can enjoy fresh seafood while shopping at both local stores and larger chains such as Walmart
