Mount Pleasant is a small town located in Pickens County, South Carolina. The population was 1,993 at the 2010 census. Gun parts history in Mount Pleasant started with the first firearms made in Mount Pleasant by local blacksmiths. By 1868, guns were being made in Mount Pleasant by white gunsmiths as well. In 1871, Mountpleasant had its own rifle range which helped to promote gun ownership and shooting among the community. Negroes were not allowed to own rifles until after World War II when they were re-allowed under specific regulations. In 1906, mount Pleasant's first post office was established and soon began receiving mail from all over South Carolina.Gun parts manufacturing became more common in Mount Pleasant during this time as it became an important center for the firearm industry. Many of these manufacturers continued to operate into the 21st century including PMC Arms Corporation which makes suppressors today.

The Mount Pleasant Rifle Company was formed in 1871 from the merger of two other rifle companies. The first company, the Mount Pleasant Rifle Battalion, was organized on April 12th, 1871. The second company, the Mount Pleasant Rifle Regiment, was organized on October 4th, 1871. The company name changed to the Mount Pleasant Rifle Company on November 1st of that year. On December 8th of that year, the company elected a captain and lieutenant colonel and took up arms against Confederate forces at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. After unsuccessful attempts to retreat back into South Carolina before being forced to surrender on December 13th, the regiment lost over 100 men killed and wounded during their engagement with Confederate forces. In 1880, when another rifle battalion was organized in honor of General Robert E Cummings who had died in 1879 during the American Civil War (the Cummings Battalion disbanded in 1901), Captain John A Hinson became its captaincy effective January 1st of that year. From 1880-1892 Captain Hinson served as adjutant general for both companies within the Sixth Regiment Infantry Brigade which he also commanded from 1886-1892 while also serving as an instructor at West Point where he graduated fourth out of his class in 1895. In 1898 Captain Hinson became military governor for Beaufort County after it gained city status and continued to serve until 1902 when he resigned due to ill health. On July 10th 1918 Corporal Clarence P Steele enlisted with Company C USNR along with Private Augustus S Barber from Battery K 2nd Artillery “F” Troop REVOLUTIONARY INFANTRY REGIMENT assignment No 318713 Headquarters unit HMS CONSTABLE Marines attached) aboard HMS CONSTABLE as part of her bombardment squadron off Cape Lookout Maryland During World War I He attained Silver Star for heroism on September 16 1916 For conspicuous gallantry leading his battery against hostile Neshoba County rebels riding into action unsupported through thick underbrush then engaging them single file hand grenades firing over cover; later sacrificing life by going down with a still burning grenade himself
Mount Pleasant is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1785, the British General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from Charlotte to Mount Pleasant after being defeated by George Washington at Yorktown. The small town began to grow as businesses and residents relocated to the area. By 1819, Mount Pleasant had a store and two homes. A school was started in 1827 and continued until 1955 when it closed due to lack of students. In 1850, Mountpleasant had a post office with six mailboxes and one stop on the Charleston Railroad. By 1860, the population had increased to 910 people and a hotel was built on what is now Main Street. A courthouse was built in 1892 but failed to open because of economic difficulties. During World War II, Mount Pleasant served as an airbase for RAF Nos Class 808 & 809 which operated from nearby Stromboli airfield during 1943-1945 (the first time RAF mountaintops were used in such an operation). Afterward many local inhabitants took up farming or became involved in manufacturing including Coca Cola who opened their first bottling plant here in 1947 The economy has slowly recovered since then with new businesses opening up such as BMW dealership which opened in 2006 Today mountpleasant has regained its former renown as a vibrant community with excellent schools and diverse attractions

The mountaintop village had an early cotton gin and looms which supplied Charleston with cloth, until textile production became dominant in the region in the late 19th century. Cotton plantations were abandoned during the Great Depression; however, when manufacturing revived around 1960, Mount Pleasant became a center for auto parts and other new industries. The realignment of US Route 5 in 1980 created new borders for Mount Pleasant as its eastern edge shifted from Greenwood to Sumter County to the south and east while its western edge moved upriver to Hilton Head Island and Myrtle Beach
