Mount Pleasant is a small town in Pickens County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,547 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is located on the eastern edge of Pickens County and is bordered by Piney Branch to the north, Spring Hill to the east, and La Grange to the south. It contains a mix of white and black residents. The first Europeans to visit Mount Pleasant were traders from Virginia who went there in 1718 for trade with the Cherokee. The first European settler in Mount Pleasant was John White who built a cabin on Cabin Creek in 1810. In 1830, General James Heth brought his army down through Pickens County and encampment at Cove Landing about two miles northeast of present-day Mount Pleasant. He left an enduring legacy when he named one of his settlements after himself – Hethstown (later known as Hartsville). In 1838 Daniel Boone came into this area from Tennessee looking for land for his new family – what would become Appalachian Mountains had not been explored yet. His journey began at Knoxville where he met Major Ridgely Cobb who directed him northwest to Cumberland Gap which he did on October 20th that year with six men including Boone himself and Andrew Jackson’s younger brother David Cobbirteen years later another group led by Captain John Stoneman reached Peaksboro before winter set in on November 8th while they were camped near mile marker 352 on North Georgia Road outside present-day Springhill. That night nine men including Captains Stoneman and Samuel Weeden perished when their snow transport caught fire over open country southwest of Peaksboro while en route back to civilization two days later. They were buried under snowdrifts eight miles south of Peaksboro near present day Springhill church.. On July 6th 1840 Confederate Private First Class William Jukes was trading supplies along US501 near present day Greenville when he discovered human bones three miles southeast of Grantsville when driving home from getting some hay because his wagon got stuck between boulders atop a hill just west of Grantsville Reservoir across from Dyersburg today.. Despite being flagrant about it Jukes didn’t get pulled over until weeks later when driving back upriver towards Greensboro after picking up some more supplies en route When questioned about it today Jukes still won’t say whether or not he found any bodies but does say that upon returning home “I could see them quite plainly Bones lay scattered around like pieces Of Clay On a quiet Stream” A search party consisting onlyof Jukes walked over four days recovering all body parts eventually yielding one skeleton which has never been positively identified however DNA testing currently supports Jumpes theory This event remains one of Charleston SCs most mysterious unsolved crimes

Mount Pleasant was a small town in South Carolina during the late 1800s. It was located on the banks of the Santee River, about 25 miles east of Charleston. The town had a population of about 350 people at its peak in 1892. Mount Pleasant was named for General James H. Mount, who fought in the American Revolution and died at battle of Saratoga. The first inhabitants of Mount Pleasant were Indian scouts who lived near the river until white settlers arrived in 1785. The first white settler to arrive in Mount Pleasant was John White, who built a cabin on what is now State Street. A few months later, another white man, Richard Henderson, arrived and started trading with the Indians. In 1787 Henderson acquired land around present-day Mount Pleasant from an African slave owner and donated it to South Carolina as part of his estate. In 1802, James Hogg came to Mountpleasant and began selling lumber from his plantation near Columbia. By 1810 Hogg had developed enough land around Mountpleasant to support a small settlement and he called it New Hope after his farm near Newberry Hill became known for producing high-quality cottonseed oil. In 1814 Colonel Robert Ewell granted access to the Santee River for boat traffic between Charleston and Fayetteville so that goods could be transported downriver easier than by wagon or horseback ride across country. In 1838 John Moultrie bought 400 acres (160 hectares) along the Santee River from Colonel Ewell for $5 per acre ($30 per hectare). Moultrie intended to make Mount pleasant into a fashionable commercial center with possible settlements nearby that could provide housing, stores, schools, churches and other public services needed by residents living within walking distance of him or his businesses. Moultrie's plan failed because malaria epidemics hit South Carolina hard during this time period; most people died from mosquito bites rather than disease endemic mosquitoes like those found in Brazil or Africa where malaria thrived unchecked because there were no effective treatments available at that time.). After Moultrie's death in 1840 some local businessmen formed a company called "Mount Pleasant & Southern Railroad" which proposed building a railway through central South Carolina from Springdale upriver to Fort Mill then downriver past Mt Pleasant past Beaufort Landing before terminating at Point Lookout on the Savannah River opposite Hilton Head Island
In 1770, the first white man to set foot on Mount Pleasant was Captain James Robertson. He and his party of six men made the journey up the mountain in a cart and became the first Europeans to settle in what is now South Carolina. The original grant for Mount Pleasant was made by King George III of Great Britain to Major Johnand Mrs. Elizabeth Pinckney in 1771. The town of Mount Pleasant began to be established around this time and soon grew into a large community with many homes, businesses, and schools. In 1802, Mount Pleasant became part of the United States and eventually absorbed all of Charleston County. Today, Mount Pleasant remains a vibrant community with rich history that offers plenty of attractions for visitors from all over the world.
