In 1865, General Granville Cushing led an army against Confederate forces during the American Civil War and he destroyed many homes and plantations near Mount Pleasant due to their support of secessionist causes. This event is commonly referred to as “The Battle of Mount Pleasant” because it took place here. In 1903, baseball was introduced to South Carolina when Boston Red Sox pitcher Babe Ruth made his debut against Charleston Civic League opponents Noe Valley High School team at Park Avenue Grounds on Valentine's Day before 8,000 fans present with President Theodore Roosevelt presiding over proceedings officiating by J P Morgan Jr., Major League Commissioner at that time During World War II (1941-1945), Mtpleasant played host to artillery batteries stationed there for military training purposes; these batteries remained until 1945 when they were relocated elsewhere within US Army command zones . mount pleasant caucasian christian community center
