BB guns have been a part of the Mount Pleasant community for over 100 years. There are three primary sources of information on these firearms: local history, historical records, and public documents. Local history is the most extensive source for BB gun history in Mount Pleasant. The first record of BB guns in Mount Pleasant comes from 1876, when two men named Wofford and Byrd built a shooting gallery in an old mill site. From this location, they sold their pistols to other residents of the town. In 1904, John Hinton opened a store in town and began selling handguns made by Colt and other companies. From here, he became one of the largest sellers of handguns in South Carolina. In 1911, Mount Pleasant incorporated as a city and began to regulate handgun sales within its boundaries. This was done to prevent individuals from manufacturing too many handguns without having them registered with the city government. As time passed, more municipalities began to adopt similar regulations and BB guns slowly lost popularity withinMountPleasant until they were reintroduced into the community in the early 1920s when Jaybird Firearms Company opened up shop hereabouts (later known as Jordan Firearms). From here on out, it was difficult for anyone but Jaybird Firearms Company to produce quality firearms that could be sold within the town limits. However, due to their longevity and success within the community – not to mention their overwhelming demand – they remained one of South Carolina’s leading firearms manufacturers throughout much of itshistory (see sidebar below for more information). A few items that may come up during county or township elections are whether or not there is room at our library for any new or additional Bb Guns books! The following excerpt from "The History Of Pistol Sales In South Carolina" by Edward Munch provides an overview on how bb guns came about in Mount Pleasant: “One story has it that two men named Wofford and Byrd built a shooting gallery near an old mill site back in 1876- thus giving birth to what we now know as BBguns- airgun rifles which fire Japanned rounds instead of lead balls! It is interesting to note that despite this traditional origin story- no evidence exists tying either man directly with initiating this particular industry trend; rather it seems something got started all around them because someone decided upon starting off with nothing!”

Mount Pleasant, located in Spartanburg County, South Carolina is a small town that has been around since the 1800s. The town was originally named Mount Pleasant after General Robert E. Lee's home in Virginia, but it changed its name to South Carolina because of the state's secession from the United States. The population of Mount Pleasant grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to its location on the border of two slave states and its strategic position as a crossroads for travelers. By 1851, Mount Pleasant had a population of 1,500 people and it quickly became an important commercial center in the region. In 1859, Confederate General Prentiss McIntosh attacked Union forces at Fort Pulaski and attack resulted in many civilian casualties. By 1861, South Carolina had seceded from the United States and become an independent country with its own government. As a result, Mount Pleasant lost some of its importance as a commercial center and it also saw decreased development throughout Reconstruction Period. However, by 1870, when Reconstruction ended, Mountpleasant had regained some of its prosperity thanks to new businesses such as lumberyards and hotels opening up in the area. Today, Mountpleasant is an important cultural attraction due to its rich history and diverse attractions including excellent local restaurants and attractions like Fort Pulaski National Battlefield which are still active today
Mount Pleasant was established in 1795 as a plantation on the present-day Mount Pleasant Plantation. The first white inhabitant of Mount Pleasant was Captain John Brown, who arrived in 1795 and built a small cabin on the property. In 1802, Colonel James Moore moved to Mount Pleasant from Orangeburg County and began to purchase land around the plantation. He named his new home "Mount Pleasant" after his old home in Orangeburg County. In 1806, Colonel Moore's son, George Moore, married Lady Jane Randolph of Barbados and took possession of the plantations along with Mountpleasant. Lady Jane Randolph continued to live at her father's home until her death in 1812. From 1813 through 1830, General Andrew Jackson owned and operated the plantations as part of his military campaign against Native Americans known as the Seminole Wars. After Andrew Jackson's death in 1835, the property passed through several owners before it was acquired by Jepson & Co., a cotton factor, in 1840. The company used the plantation for storage and later sold it to Wofford College for use as a school campus. The college maintained ownership of Mountpleasant until it sold it back to Jepson & Co.)
