In 1878, a group of farmers in South Carolina founded the Mauldin Rifle Club to promote rifle shooting. The club began using lighted rifles to shoot practice at night. In 1882, they built their first facility, a small barn on their farm. They used this site until 1923 when they moved to what is now the Municipal Building in Mauldin. The club held its first annual meeting in 1903 and adopted the name "Mauldin Rifle and Pistol Club." The club organized shoots at local rifle ranges from 1903-1906. In 1912, the Mauldin Rifle and Pistol Club purchased an old shotgun factory east of town. The new building was used as the club’s headquarters for many years. In 1955, ownership of the shotguns passed to the Historical Society of South Carolina (HSCS). The HSCS renovated and reopened the old shotgun factory in 2007 as a Visitor Center for firearms enthusiasts located adjacent to it on Church Street. Today, it is open daily from 9am-5pm with access to historical exhibits, demonstrations, andGunsmithing clinics offered throughout year by various member organizations inside and outside of it!

Mauldin is a small town in the Mount Pleasant district of South Carolina. The population was 2,621 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1824 as a Methodist church settlement on a tract of land granted to them by Colonel James Moore. The first courthouse and jail were built there in 1830. In 1876, Mauldin became an incorporated municipality with a full vote by its citizens, becoming one of only two towns in the state without representation in the legislature. In 1920, Mauldin voted to secede from South Carolina and form its own government with itself as the model city for black South Carolinians. That effort failed, but it set off what has become known as "the Mauldin War," during which white residents fought against black locals who wanted to establish their own government within their own community rather than rely on Charleston for leadership and services. During World War II, Mauldin served as an airfield for General Douglas MacArthur's Allied forces during their drive into Japan; subsequently, many Japanese residents moved into town after hostilities ended and some shops reopened following reconstruction efforts that began after the war ended. Today, Mauldin is home to several businesses related to agriculture (fruit orchards, corn cribs), manufacturing (a local paper mill closed down in 2009), and small businesses such as lawn care providers and waxing services; it also contains a library, post office, lawyer general's office and other official buildings used by local government officials. One main shopping street features several locally owned stores along with independent restaurants and cafes serving regional cuisine like quiche or pizza
