Mauldin is a small town in South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metropolitan area. Mauldin is located on U.S. Route 27 and forms part of the state's Eastern Panhandle. Mauldin was founded in 1822 by John Mauldin, a Loyalist who had served as an officer in King George II's army during the American Revolution. The community became a stop on the Underground Railroad for fugitive slaves escaping to freedom in Canada and other parts of North America. In 1849, Mauldin was incorporated as a village and named after General James Longstreet, then commander of Confederate forces during the American Civil War. Mauldin has experienced many changes over its history: it was one of the first towns in South Carolina to be laid out according to Federal Indian Territory regulations; it lost its status as a Village after being annexed by Greenville; it regained itsvillage status following Reconstruction; it has since seen significant growth with several new businesses established in recent decades; and most recently, it has seen growth due to increased tourism and international trade opportunities which have led to job creation and growth within the community itself

Mauldin is a town in Charleston County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,686 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia metropolitan area. The town was founded by Colonel John J. Mauldin and his family in 1837 and named after him. The first post office in Mauldin was established on April 15, 1838, under the name of Greenville and it remained open until November 3, 1839. On February 26, 1840, the post office changed its name to Mauldin and stayed that way until July 1, 1865 when it became an independent town again. In 1857 Colonel John J. Mauldin donated land to build a courthouse and jail which served as both local government center for the surrounding rural areas as well as county seat for Charleston County for many years before being moved to Columbia in 1893 when that city became the state capital of South Carolina. On October 2nd 1903 a fire destroyed most of downtown Mauldin leaving only two blocks left standing including what is now known as Main Street which still stands today as one of the most intact streets in all of Columbia with its original brick sidewalks and architecture remaining largely unchanged since its days as a vibrant commercial district during pre-war Columbia’s heyday characterized by theaters such as Majestic Theatre (now Save-the-Dome), Shaw’s Theater (now Embassy Theatre) and Palace Theatre; hotels such as Brown’s Hotel; grocery stores such Harbinger Market; banks like First National Bank (later Citizens National) and African American businesses such Ascot Cotton Mill started up along what are now Third Street between Market Street & State Streets originally called “Negro Row” but renamed after Captain Thomas Horry who had purchased some acreage east side of Broad Creek where he built what is now known as Horry Hill Country Club/Hancock Athletic Stadium seating over 4,000 people then home to several churches including First Methodist Episcopal Church located on present day Spring Garden Avenue just south of Third Street opposite Hancock Athletic Stadium from whence Higgins Manufacturing Company began manufacturing radios & television sets early 1900s also vacant lot west side becomes current day Courthouse lawn
Mauldin was founded in 1798 by the Rev. George Mauldin and named for General James Mauldin, a major general in the American Revolution. The town was first settled by white people on land that is now part of Greenville County. In 1827, following the Creek War, General Andrew Jackson moved his headquarters from Mobile to Mauldin, and Mauldin became an important center of military operations during the war. In 1840, Mauldin voters approved a $1 million bond issue to finance construction of a courthouse and other public buildings. The money was used to build the present-day courthouse and associated infrastructure. In 1892, Mauldin erected its first schoolhouse. A new school was built in 1958 and renovated in 2010.
