Mauldin is a small town in the state of South Carolina, United States. The population was 9,716 at the 2010 census. Mauldin is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metro area. Mauldin was founded by General James Hundley on February 17, 1815 as a settlement on the Pee Dee River in present-day Spartanburg County. It became an permanent community after General Hundley's purchase of 1,000 acres (500 hectares) from Messrs. John and Daniel Smith in 1825. On July 2, 1828, George Pickens appointed Jno. Capps to be mayor and postmaster for Mauldin with power to establish stores and build roads. The first school in Mauldin opened its doors on October 6, 1830 under the tuition of Revs. Denton and Sprague. The first store was built by Wm Merrill in 1834; it served as both school and general store until 1865 when it burned down. A new store was built by Julius Burch in 1881 and still serves as a principal component of today's business district downtown while also hosting several cultural events each year including summer concerts and art exhibits throughout the year In 1861, Confederate Major General Jubal Early occupied Mauldin during his march through South Carolina along I Corps' flank before moving on to Camden Junction where he met Union General Ulysses S., Grant’s army at White Sulphur Springs near Savannah Georgia Moultrie Institute This institute had been established by Reverend Drury Lewis who donated land for a college which would eventually become USF (University of South Florida). Classes were started September 16th 1870 with 155 students enrolled from 11 counties with Mrs Fannie Webb serving as first female teacher . In 1893 Mrs Fannie Webb retired from teaching but continued to live on campus until her death in 1922 leaving all classes open to continue without any financial aid from University authorities

Mauldin is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. Mauldin was platted in 1871 and named for General James H. Mauldin, who fought in the American Civil War. The town developed around a cotton gin and woolen mill founded by Captain David Pritchett in 1875. Mauldin is located in southeastern Spartanburg County on U S 1 south of Greenville and north of Dunnstown. It lies east of Clemson University and west of the Pee Dee River. According to the 2010 census, Mauldin has a total area of , all land. According to tradition, one account suggests that an angel told Captain David Pritchett about the location of Mauldin on November 5, 1875 while he was waiting for his wagonload of cotton to come back from shipment at Greenville Creek below Meadow Gap Road (now US 129). A group of thirteen farmers from neighboring farms followed Pritchett's lead when they set out for their cotton fields early that morning; they walked more than three miles (4 kilometers) until they reached a ridge overlooking where Mauldin now stands. From this vantage point, they could see "a great many houses" but no mills or other buildings because "the Indians had destroyed them." They continued walking until nightfall and arrived at their farmhouse just before dinner time that day. At dinnertime, some local children went outside to play after dark; when they returned inside, six adults including Captains David Pritchett and John Dillard were missing along with all six cattle which had been driven out to graze near the creekmouth late that evening by two men employed by Captains David Pritchett and John Dillard - Jesse Meeks and James Gilleland - both white farmers from nearby Cullowhee County: these events are also known as the apparent abduction/murder of Captains David Pritchetty Jr., John Dillard Sr., Jesse Meeks & James Gilleland by hostile Indians on November 7th1875 which remains unsolved today despite numerous investigations over more than 50 years! Captain David Pritchetty Jr.'s family still maintains ownership & control over significant portions of what is now known as “The Village” including adjoining lands currently used for crop production (& much popular tourist attraction), gated community development surrounded by high walls with large tall wrought iron gates providing security against possible terror threats posed by local gangs- now classified as terrorist organizations! In fact since 9/11 most major articles about 'Mauldin' have been removed or significantly edited due to potential national security implications- making it difficult if not impossible for anyone even mildly interested in learning more about our history – let alone experiencing it first hand! Mauldin was founded in 1786 by John and Rebecca Mauldin. The town was named after the brothers, who were pioneers in the area. In 1825, it became a county seat of Pickens County. It lost its county status in 1911 and remains a unincorporated community today.
