Mauldin is a small town in South Carolina. The population was 3,852 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson metropolitan area. It is located on the west side of the state, about 25 miles southeast of Columbia. Mauldin's history goes back to 1793 when it was called Wofford County and was part of Cherokee Nation. In 1823, it became a part of Unionist Georgia (the United States during Reconstruction). On March 8, 1863, Confederate General Robert Ewell attacked Mauldin with 10 cannon and 100 cavalry injuring 30 men before withdrawing. The Battle of Mauldin resulted in no fatalities among either side but did considerable damage to wagon roads and stores in nearby towns including Columbia. The last settler in Mauldin was James Henson who arrived around 1874 and built a cabin on what is now Main Street. He also raised chickens and pigs which he sold for meat to other farmers in the area until his death in 1922 leaving behind a farmstead that still stands today with over 20 acres (80 hectares) of land irrigated by water from its own wells (). In 1922, Agrarian Reform Act led to increased production by farmers such as Harry Herndon who moved into the town from neighboring Greenville () after getting an offer for 640 acres (240 hectares) just east of Mauldin from fellow farmer David Ladd (). With access to better transportation available through Highway 97 from Columbia (), more people started moving into Mauldin as well as businesses starting up such as grocery stores (), post offices (), banks (), etc., increasing its population from 2,000 in 1940 to over 5,000 by 1960 (). In recent years there has been some growth back onto the main street with several new businesses opening up including dentists(), lawyers(), architects(), etc., helping keep Mauldin vibrant even during hard times (). Maulding's economy revolves around agriculture with most residents employed directly or indirectly within farming industries such as poultry raising (), crop production (), horticulture (), sheep husbandry () and general merchandising (). There are also several local restaurants serving local cuisine throughout the year along with several convenience stores and pharmacies making it easy for locals to get their groceries or medical supplies without havingto leave their homes (); many residents also work outside the home through various small businesses providing services such as lawn care (&idem), pet sitting (/idem), painting & decorating (&idem), driving schools (!), IT services (&idem), etc.; many families have two incomes so they can afford multiple services thereby maintaining close community ties while still having enough income flexibility for modernization needs like cell phone service().

Mauldin is a town located in the U.S. state of South Carolina and part of the Greenville-based metropolitan area. The population was 11,912 at the 2010 census. The name derives from John Mauldin, an early settler who platted this area in 1792. Mauldin is first mentioned as a small community in 1682 when United States surveyor James Robertson built his plantation here on what is now US 1 about two miles west of present-day Greenville. By 1800, Mauldin had grown to over 100 people and was one of the most important cotton plantations in the region. Mauldin was founded in 1800 by John and Jane Mauldin. The first store was a cabin on the Palmetto River. In 1814, the Mauldins moved to a more permanent location on the northeast corner of High Street and US 1. By 1820, they had built a two-story building on High Street that served as their home for over 100 years. The Mauldins were among the first families to settle in what is now South Carolina, coming from Ireland in the early 1800s and establishing themselves in what is now Mauldin County. They were pioneers in many ways: John Mauldin was one of the earliest settlers who traveled to America and became an influential landowner here; Jane Mauldin helped rear her children here; and later generations of family members took up residence here, helping make it one of South Carolina's most prominent communities.
