Mauldin is a small town in South Carolina, United States. It is the seat of Pickens County and the population was 3,771 at the 2010 census. The town is named after General James W. Mauldin, who fought in the American Revolution and was one of the first white men to settle in South Carolina. The area that would become Mauldin was first settled by Africans on Indian land before being bought by colonial Americans. In 1781, Captain John Smith explored what would become Mauldin and named it for General James W. Mauldin, who had led an army against British forces during the Revolutionary War. At that time, most people in South Carolina lived near Charleston, which was then the largest city in America. However, when Charleston became too dangerous to live in after a series of fires (including one that destroyed much of downtown), many African Americans began moving to "the new world" - meaning South Carolina - because they saw opportunity there. By 1838, about 60% of all residents were black; however, this number increased to more than 90% by 1860 due to slave trade and other factors%. Mauldin's early settlers were primarily farmers and planters who developed crops such as cotton and tobacco while also importing goods from North America including slaves. The town's first school opened in 1814 and its first post office opened in 1827. In 1861-1865 Confederate soldiers stationed here used local mills for their ammunition needs; as a result, some damage occurred as a result of artillery fire over time In 1865-1867 Union general William Tecumseh Sherman invaded South Carolina from Georgia using his spring offensive called "March on Corinth". When he reached central Pickens County on April 12th 1865 he found villagers gathered around their homes with torches singing "All Hail Our Leader" under trees across from where he had camped out two nights earlier! He ordered his troops not to enter without orders from him – resulting in what has come be called “Pickens”saint” – but instead marched them back into town square where they burned any buildings they found before disbanding an hour later After Reconstruction ended following the Civil War (1861-1865), many freedmen moved into Mauldin seeking better opportunities than those available back home so it remains one ofAmerica’s poorest towns today despite its large Black population (). The community experienced rapid growth following World War II when several factories were built here including Hanes Corp., Tyvek®, Coca Cola Cola Bottling Plant & Refrigerator Plant (now Koch Industries), First National Bank & Trust Company (now Wells Fargo) among others In 1960 local resident Virgil Keyner founded Edgecombe Community College & High School which still operates today beside HanesCorp., Coca Cola Cola Bottling Plant & Refrigerator Plant (now Koch Industries) located adjacent First National Bank & Trust Company now known as Wells Fargo Center

Mauldin is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,619 at the 2010 census. Mauldin was founded by farmers and gentlemen of means in 1849. It originally consisted of just a few homes and a schoolhouse. The townspeople developed a rich agricultural history that continues to this day. In 1957, the state legislature designated Mauldin as the county seat of Spartanburg County. This designation made Mauldin one of the wealthiest towns in South Carolina and allowed it to maintain its high level of economic development. In recent years, Mauldin has become known for its tourism industry which provides employment for many local residents. The town's name comes from an early settler named James Mauldin who arrived in 1785 with his family from Scotland. Jamesmaulden land lay near what is now downtown Mauldin and he named his home "Maulding" after his home countryman, John Mawdlee. In 1849, when settlers began arriving in South Carolina, they found that their original homeland - Northumberland County - was too thinly populated to support them so they established themselves on acreage located between Williamsburg and Columbia counties west of the Catawba River where they began building homes and businesses. In 1957, when Spartanburg County became one large unit through creation of new counties within our state system, Mauldin was selected as the new county seat because it had been an important part of our community since before we were all born! As you can imagine, this designation meant much to us all! We are so proud to call ourselves descendants of those pioneers who chose to move here 25 years ago! As you drive through town center you will find several landmarks associated with early agriculture: Old Home Place (now A&W Liquor store), Meeting House Hill (site of several churches including First Baptist Church) and Green Gables (now the library). All three were built during periods when farming families were establishing their homes around these same sites – often using donated materials or money from friends or family members who lived nearby on bigger farms or beyond reach with farmable acreage themselves! One common method used by theseearly farmers for exchanging goods with neighbors was buying “packages” – basketsfuls or even sacks full – worth miles away at market value! Today you can visit any one or all three sites today if you visit downtown Mauldin! There are also several small museums located throughout town center; exhibits related specifically to African American life & history are currently on display at McCrary-Bennett Museum while exhibits related specifically to local cuisine are open at Jourdan’s Café/Cafeteria/Grocery Store inside Town Hall
Mauldin was founded in 1776 by a group of slaves who freed themselves and took up residence on an island in the Charleston Harbor. The town became a slave-free area in 1819, and in 1832 it became the capital of South Carolina.
