This led to the formation of Irmo’s own militia group called “The Patriot Guard Society” made up of citizens from all walks of life who wanted their town back safe again after Katrina hit. The NRA also donated shotguns, assault rifles, ammunition, generators, water tanks and more to support this effort; all while still being open for members to come into for assistance when needed. After 9/11/2001 things changed completely in Irmo thanks primarily to then-Mayor Reuben Turner who decided that handguns were not going away any time soon despite repeated calls from law enforcement officials throughout South Carolina about just that happening! Turner was also able to get $1 million dollars from Congress through the Violence Against Women Act – which gave him control over city resources like police officers – as well as money coming in through state appropriation halls like funding for crime victims compensation programs etcetera. That year it also became the first town in Spartanburg County to have electricity installed through an act of Parliament called the Electric Light Act (1895).
