In Irmo, South Carolina, the history of firearms and firearm clothing is significant. The town was founded in 1827 by white men who traveled down the Rivers of the South. The area that now stands in Irmo was used for hunting and fishing during the early 1800s. guns were not widespread until after passage of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1791. Firearms were not introduced into this region until well into the 19th century. While gun culture began to spread throughout eastern North Carolina and Virginia by 1820, it did not take root in what is today known as South Carolina until after 1827 when white men journeyed downriver to establish a new settlement. In that year, they arrived at what is now known as Irmo on Catawba River. From here, they developed a hunting and fishing economy which helped support their community for many years. The firstguns manufactured in Irmo were rifles made from spikey woods called hickory because of their tough texture and strong hold against wear. By 1830, however, pistols had also become popular among settlers in this region so manufacturers turned to this type of weapon for handguns as well (i.e., Revolvers). It should be noted that there was no “official” handgun market until about 1840 when rifle-makers started marketing handguns under various brand names such as Colt and Ransom Brands

Irmo is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, SC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Irmo post office was established on December 12, 1892, and was discontinued in February 1955. Irmo was first settled by white settlers in the early 1800s. A sawmill and gristmill were built here before 1830. In 1838 John Pritchard built a house here which still stands today; it is now known as the Pritchard House Museum. The land around Irmo became agricultural when it was acquired by Samuel Huggins in 1856 from his father-in-law George Fayette. In 1865 Jnoathan Gentry built a wagon wheel factory near present day Irmo to produce wagon wheels for shipment to other parts of the country. This mill continued operation until 1933 when it closed down due to competition from more efficient mills in nearby towns such as Greenville and Anderson. The post office at IrMO opened on December 12th 1892 with mail being delivered twice per week to residents of neighboring communities including Spartanburg and Laurens (now North Laurens). With only one staff member working full time during its early years, efforts were made to build an infrastructure that would allow for increased mail delivery frequencies over time including electric streetlights which were installed in 1902 along with modern plumbing facilities including wells and hot water systems throughout the community thereby creating what can be viewed as an early modem telephone exchange network within this rural community serving all of Spartanburg County!
In 1814, Irmo was founded as a small town in Sumter County. It grew rapidly during the antebellum years and by 1848 it had become a city. In 1865, Irmo was named after General James Irvin, who fought in the American Civil War. The city was renamed for Ulysses S. Grant on November 20,1892.
