The Hilton Head Island Gun Club was formed in 1892. The club met at the home of Dr. J.H. Reisinger, which is now a museum on the island. The first target shoot took place on October 15th, 1892 with 12 members shooting at a 10-yard platform. They were successful and began regular shoots at various distances including 20 yards and 50 yards. In 1916 the club moved to its present location on the island where they have held their annual meetings ever since. In addition to target shooting, the club also enjoyed participation in rifle and shotgun matches as well as many other activities such as camping, fishing, boating, golfing and hiking among others over the years. Today there are still active members of the Hilton Head Island Gun Club who enjoy participating in all types of target shooting events both local and statewide!
