Gun sights have a long and varied history in Hanahan, South Carolina. In 1838, Dr. John C. Brown designed the first publicgunsight in the United States, which was installed on an old mill in town. The sight consisted of a crosshair overlayed on a piece of metal that could be aimed at any target from a distance. It served as a warning to farmers and other outdoor enthusiasts about potential targets they might encounter while hunting or fishing. In 1865, Confederate General Pee Dee Winn issued the following order: "All Union troops must arm themselves with proper gun sights." This directive led to the development of iron sights by Confederate engineers, which were mounted on artillery pieces to provide better aimability and accuracy. Gun sights continued to be used by Confederate forces during the American Civil War until 1865 when they were replaced by iron sights based on British designs. The modern era of gun sighting began in earnest with the development of breechloading guns in 1875. This new type of firearm required new types of sights specifically designed for breechloading ammunition, including windage and elevation adjustments using dials or levered turrets/stocks. These Improvements led to increased usage of gun sighting systems across all militaries around the world, making it one of the most important technologies for military success today.

1863- The first gun sights in Hanahan were a set of iron sights. These sights were mounted on the top of a post. They were used to aim artillery fire. 1911- A new type of gun sight was developed in 1911 called a "telescopic." This type of sight allowed you to see your target from any angle. It was used on airplanes and warships. 1945- Gun sights became available for use on firearms after World War II. These sights allowed shooters to aim their guns at targets more accurately than before.
Hanahan is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville-Spartanburg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Hanahan community began as a farming village in 1873 on land purchased by James A. Hanahan from his father and brother-in-law. The first store opened in 1875, and the first school was founded in 1878. By 1885, the community had two churches and twelve homes. In 1895, a sawmill was built to power the local electric lights; the town became incorporated that year. In 1901, Hanahan had four stores and twenty residents; by 1905 it had six stores and thirty residents. In 1910, a post office was established; by 1915 it had eight stores and fifty residents. In 1925, an engine plant was built to run the local water system; by 1930 it had sixteen stores and one hundred residents. In 1935, when Spartanburg County merged with other counties to form Black Belt South Carolina (later calledorry), Hanahan became part of Greenville-Spartanburg Municipal District #2A which included all of Greenville County except for Anderson County where it remained within Spartanburg Municipal District #1A until 1974 when that district was disbanded altogether and its lands were combined with those of neighboring Laurens County to form Laurens County Municipal District #4A which included Hanahan until 1978 when that district also dissolved entirely and its lands were combined with those of neighboring Columbia County to form Columbia County Municipal District #5A which includes Hanhan until present day. Today'sHanahan is located just off Interstate 95 about northeast of downtown Spartanburg on State Route 158 between RAF Palmetto Road (SR 278) east of town center (Old Town) on one side and SR 828 west thereof on another side approximately . According to recent censuses conducted via questionnaire mailed out throughout October 2018 through December 2018 many businesses have closed up shop or moved away since last censuses were taken so we will not be able to do an update for this paper until next year

The first gun sights were invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. The conical gas mask sight was patented in 1802. It consisted of a metal cone with a hole at the top, through which the user could see the target. This type of sight was used on pistols and rifles until the late 1800s.
Hanahan is a small town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Greenville–Spartanburg–Anderson Metropolitan Statistical Area. An unincorporated community in Hanahan Township served as a local center for religious services until it closed down in the early 21st century leaving those services to other small towns within the township. Hanahan residents still attend religious services at nearby White Sands Baptist Church from time to time and also use their home as an occasional meeting place for local government meetings. The first settler in what would become Hanahan was James Hahn on December 20, 1820. He purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of land from Nicholas Hilton and his son John Hilton Sr.. James Hahn named his new land "Hanahan" after his father-in-law's birthplace, Germany. First Congregational church service took place on December 26, 1825 with Reverend Samuel Gregg officiating. The first pastor of what would be called "The First Congregational Church of Hanahan", Revd Samuel Gregg preached sermon #1 on January 4th 1826 which was recorded by Revd David Sutherlin who gave permission to print it soon after its preachign: In compliance with your request I will herewith deliver up my sermons for this year past preached before you Notice that they are not originals but are copies I have made out of them selves taken from my notes and published last year when I left this place . . . After preaching these few short sentences Revd Samuel Gregg retired from pastoral care due to death or retirement but he is buried there under high stone marker beside his wife Mrs Elizabeth Gregg who died May 25th 1830 aged 72 years old & 5 months pregnant she had been born February 12th 1789 near Sandycreek Plantation & reared there her whole life till her decease we did not bury our dear Mrs Elizabeth until many years afterwards when we shouldered the responsibility again because our dear Mrs Elizabeth had laid down her life so nobly during these trying times When Revd Samuel Gregg came here he found 3 Canes raised about 2 feet off the ground A well dug 360 yards below ground A mill Wheelwright’s Shop open 7 days a week No Schooling then nor now since FEB 1850 schoolmaster removed Mr Tomlinson Aug 1800 [sic] This church building was dedicated Dec 25th 1830 by Judge Jno Cramer following prayer by Dr Richard Stockbridge over Carney’s objections while Judge Carney stood back watching proceedings It stands today just outside town limits next door to white sand beaches where infants play and parents take their children to receive instruction While plans were being made for a schoolhouse in addition to this frame structure one day it rained hard enough that large puddles formed where the current account books show several people went inside To avoid being wetted they used an old cistern located behind some trees which serves as still another example of how things have changed over time We can only imagine how frustrating it must have been for teachers and parents trying to get inside when all around them water was coming up like Niagara Falls It seems impossible now but then again things may havechanged more rapidly than we could possibly remember given our limited knowledge about those times There may be anotherCongregational Church built hereabouts sometime between 1840-1860 yet nobody knows for sure As far as Methodist Churches go records show that one operated briefly along side this one prior to their move away around 1855 however no particular investigation has ever been undertaken into this matter sadly Presbyterianism arrived in South Carolina nearly 50 years later!!! In spite of having no graveyard or churches near by settlers began moving cemeteries into surrounding communities particularly towards Aberdeen and Charleston making sense based on natural growth patterns At present there are 6 cemetery locations scattered throughout southern SC including 2 within 10 miles (16 km) of Hanahanyans [sic] own homes & 4 more close by attributable primarily to white trash visitors such as campers, hikers, bikers etc… One common burial practice among early settlers seems simply to put bodies in direct sun if weather allowed otherwise simple earth burials often suffice although many early families did interment elsewhere including deep beneath property surface If you visit any cemetery today you will likely find examples of green lawn areas surrounded by headstones typical Confederate battle flag proud standees front row Cemetery opened Jan 1 1870 lot number 9 contains gravestones dated backto 1795 lots 8 & 9 also contain graves dating backto[1790]-1800
Hanahan is located in the southwestern corner of South Carolina. It was founded by white settlers in 1785, and became a town in 1827. The town was named for John Hanahan, a Welshman who had purchased land here.
